The Russian woman figured out the cardal in front of the British public.
The 50th racket of the world Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova continues to impress Wimbledon-2025. In the fourth round match, the Russian tennis player beat British Sonai Cartall (No. 51 in the WTA ranking) – 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 4 – and made it to the quarterfinals of the London tournament. The game on the central court lasted 2 hours 2 minutes and became the first confrontation of two rivals.
How Pavlyuchenkova reached the fourth circle
The path of Anastasia to the quarter -final was not easy. At the start of the tournament, she coped with Aila Tomlyanovich in three sets (No. 79) – 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 2. Then Ashley Krueger (No. 31) was confident – 7: 6 (7: 4), 6: 4, and in the third circle she won a strong -willed victory over Naomi Osaka (No. 53) – 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4. All three previous matches have proved: Pavlyuchenkova gained excellent shape and is ready to fight on any coating.
Nervous first set and confidence in the second
Prior to this match, Pavlyuchenkov and Cartall never played with each other. It is interesting that before the match they were in the ranking on neighboring lines: the Russian woman was the 50th, and the British was the 51st. Cartall played before the eyes of the domestic public, but Pavlyuchenkova quickly showed who controls the course of the meeting.
From the very beginning the match on the court was hot. Pavlyuchenkova made a break in the second game – 2: 0, but immediately Cartal returned the feed – 2: 1. The rivals several times exchanged breeks, and at the end of the first batch there was a controversial moment: with a score of 4: 4, the British was out, but the draw was not stopped by the system, and the judge appointed a replay. As a result, Game got cardal, which the Russian woman remained extremely unhappy.
“They just stole a game with me,” Pavlyuchenkova emotionally remarked at the crossing.
Nevertheless, she gathered, played setball, brought the party to a tie-break and confidently won it-7: 3. The second batch began with Break performed by Pavlyuchenkova, but Cartall returned the presentation again. The fifth game became decisive – the Russian woman came ahead and no longer allowed the opponent to return to the game – 6: 4.
According to the results of the match, Pavlyuchenkova made one Ace, was mistaken four times on the submission and implemented 5 Break Punts out of 9. Cartall had six Aises, one double error and four breeks from 11 attempts.
Pavlyuchenkova’s emotions after the ¼ finals of Wimbledon
Immediately after reaching the quarterfinal, Anastasia shared emotions right on the court.
– This is incredible. I always thought that I was bad on the grass. It’s just amazing. Especially considering that I get older and return here every year. I am very proud of myself that I can compete with these young girls at this stage and at such a level. It is just incredible, ”Pavlyuchenkova said in an interview with the court.
Historical success in the big helmet tournaments
The victory over Cartall became historical for Pavlyuchenkova: for the tenth time in her career, she went to the quarterfinals of the Bolshoi helmet tournament. This is how her achievements in tournaments were assigned:
Australian Open – 4 quarterfinals (2017, 2019, 2020, 2025)
“Roland Garros” – 3 (2011, 2021, 2023)
Wimbledon – 2 (2016, 2025)
US Open – 1 (2011)
It is also worth noting that in the WTA Live-rating she rose to 30th place, adding 20 positions.
In the quarterfinals of Wimbledon-2025, Pavlyuchenkova will meet with the winner of the couple Linda Noskova (Czech Republic)-Amanda Anisimova (USA). Regardless of the rival, Pavlyuchenkova has already proved that she was ready for new peaks. And, perhaps, this year on herbal courts, she will write another bright page of her career.
