The Americans set up a beauty from Russia. But Anya still gave a fight to the fraudster Schwentek
An inconvenient schedule and foot problems greatly prevented Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinals of the Tsincinnati tournament.
Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya was unable to overcome the quarterfinal barrier at the WTA 1000 category tournament in Cincinnati. Kalinskaya in two sets lost to Poland Iga Schwhentek.
For a Russian woman, this is a painful defeat, because before the match she complained about the organizers due to the schedule, and during the game she experienced health problems.
Problems with recovery
At the WTA 1000 category tournament in the American zincinnati, 26-year-old Anna Kalinskaya went a large and difficult path to be completely deservedly in the quarter-finals. Kalinskaya (34th racket of the world) in the second circle held a heavy match against the American Paython Steirns, but still managed to squeeze the opponent-7: 6 (7: 4), 4: 6, 6: 1. Then the Russian woman in two sets figured out another representative of the United States Amanda Anisimova (7: 5, 6: 4).
But the fourth circle for Anna again turned out to be energy -consuming. At the Lindner Fammily Tennis Senter stadium, tennis player did not easily defeat the compatriot Ekaterina Aleksandrov (3: 6, 7: 6 (7: 5), 6: 1). In the quarterfinals of Kalinskaya, I had to play with the third racket of the world Igo Schwepen. Our athlete had already met with Polka and even beat her in the semifinals of the tournament in Dubai in 2024 (6: 4, 6: 4).
– I’m excited. I hope the level will be high. Iga is a real fighter. I don’t know what I play, but it will be today. Probably, it is worth staying in the locker room, ”Kalinskaya said in an interview with the court after the victory over Alexandrova.
Before meeting with Iga, the Russian woman complained about the uncomfortable schedule of the tournament.
– How can WTA and the tournament expect that athletes will show their best level when the schedule is so unfair? After the match with Alexandrova, I returned home at 2:40 am and went to bed only at four in the morning. I slept a little and came to the courts to train.
And then my match is placed at 11 am the next day. How do the organizers and WTA imagine that I will have time to recover and restructure the sleep mode – perhaps the most important aspect of recovery? It seems to be a little unfair, ”Kalinskaya wrote on the social network.
Medical time was hit by the pace
Despite the difficulties with recovery, Anna immediately joined the game and imposed a struggle to her opponent. The girls took the game, but then the Russian woman began problems. With a score of 2: 1, in favor of the sluts, our tennis player took a medical timeout. Kalinskaya fell on the court, and the physiotherapist massaged her calf muscle for a long time. As a result, Anna bandaged her left leg, and she continued the match.
Due to the forced pause, the Russian woman lost the pace, which the yoke took advantage of, taking two game in a row. Anna nevertheless gathered and Ace closed the next game. But Schwhentyk managed to bring the matter to the victory in the first batch (6: 3). The rivals had two filing over and one double error.
The starting game of the second set was taken by Kalinskaya. After the confident beginning of Anna, the Polish tennis player began to make mistakes more often. For example, in the fourth game, our compatriot forced the switch to run around the court, and at the decisive moment she sent the ball out in length. And then the Russian woman burst forward, closing the game Ace again. At the same time, she constantly corrected the bandage on her leg, clearly experiencing discomfort.
The yoke managed to intercept the initiative and at some point stopped in Game from the semifinals. However, Kalinskaya showed an incredible character, taking the following game in which the shovetk missed four matchballs! It seemed that the Russian tennis player had a real chance to compete for victory in the party, but Polka squeezed the rival. It seems that an uncomfortable schedule and pain in the leg played a role.
As a result, the yoke beat Kalinskaya in the quarter -finals – 6: 3, 6: 4. The meeting lasted 1 hour 34 minutes. In total, in the match, Anna filed along five times and made five double errors, implementing one Break Point of two earned.
But her rival has two Ais, three double errors and three of the implemented Break Point out of 11. In the semifinals of the shwes, he will play with the winner of the match between Arina Sobolenko (Belarusian) and Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan).

Russia was left without the best duo of tennis players. Andreeva’s shocking decision

Our girls dared to make changes after the crumpled end of the season.
The duet of Russian tennis players Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schneider has become mega-popular throughout the tennis world over the past year and a half. During this time, the girls won prestigious titles and the love of fans, but in the new season the country will lose this powerful couple.
A successful year with a blurry ending
Mirra and Diana played together for the first time at the Olympic tournament in Paris in 2024. The girls immediately achieved significant success and brought the only medal to our country. The Russians were just a little short of winning gold. In the final they lost to Italians Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.
After the Olympics, the girls continued to compete together in doubles. In 2025, they reached the semi-finals of Grand Slam tournaments twice. They also won WTA tournaments. Successful performances helped Schneider and Andreeva qualify for the final tournament in pairs. True, the performance in Riyadh ended in a fiasco for the girls – three defeats and elimination after the group stage.
It was obvious to the naked eye that both girls were very exhausted at the end of the year, both physically and emotionally. Because of this, Mirra even fell out of the top 8 in the world rankings at the last moment, losing the opportunity to play in the final singles tournament for the first time in her career.
New year – new partner
If we take the latest problems out of the equation, the Russians have had a successful season. All the more shocking was the news that at the Australian Open, which starts on January 18, Mirra will not play together with Schneider. This became known from a post by Australian tennis player Ellen Perez, who published applications for the Australian Open doubles tournament on her social networks.
In the new season, Andreeva continues to set ambitious goals for herself to win the title at the Grand Slam singles tournament. The tennis player admits that she wants to repeat the career successes of Rafael Nadal. Perhaps the athlete decided to focus on solo performances, which her coach Conchita Martinez has long called for.
Diana adheres to the old strategy: she will continue to perform both singles and pairs. Schneider found herself a new partner, and of a very high level. At the Australian Open, she will fight for the title along with Lyudmila Samsonova, who has repeatedly won WTA tournaments in duets. The 27-year-old Russian woman is now in 42nd place in the doubles ranking.
So far the athletes have not commented on this decision. Now it is difficult to even imagine whether one of the most successful Russian duets of recent times will ever again please with joint performances.
