Kazakhstan representative Alexander Bublik did not shake hands with Australian Alexei Popyrin after playing at a tennis tournament in Paris.
The first round meeting at the Masters ended with Bublik winning with a score of 6:4, 6:3. The match lasted 1 hour 15 minutes. During one of the rallies, Popyrin touched the rope twice and eventually won a point without apologizing to his opponent. After the meeting, Bublik shook hands with the chair umpire, but ignored the Australian.
– If a person, hanging two ropes, does not apologize, but celebrates as if he had won something… I believe that any adequate person would do the same in my place, that is, if I ever did the same. He can celebrate and apologize later. I’m not the kind of person who would cling to this, but they apologize for it. There is a code, there is some kind of etiquette. If a person does not follow it, why should I follow another? – Bublik told the Championship.
In the second round, Bublik will play with the winner of the meeting between Corentin Moutet (France) and Riley Opelka (USA).
