(Toronto) The first round of Davis Cup qualifying between Canada and Brazil will take place on February 6 and 7, 2026 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Center at the University of British Columbia, Tennis Canada announced Thursday.
A victory against Brazil (18e) would allow Canada (ninth) to improve its record to 11-2 in 13 games at home. This meeting will also determine which country will advance to the second round of qualifying next September.
The Canadian team has also won its last three meetings in Vancouver, against Spain, Italy and Japan respectively, all played at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
During the last Davis Cup meeting held in Vancouver in March 2015, the Canadians defeated Japan 3-2. Ontarian Milos Raonic notably triumphed in singles, before British-Colombian Vasek Pospisil signed the decisive victory of 7-5, 6-3 and 6-4 against Go Soeda. Pospisil also joined forces with Ontarian Daniel Nestor to win the doubles match.
“We are delighted to return to the West Coast and Vancouver next February for this Davis Cup match,” said captain Frank Dancevic. It’s been more than 10 years since we last played a match in Vancouver, and we know that the fans will be there and will play an important role in the outcome of the match against Brazil. »
In the last Davis Cup clash between Canada and Brazil, the South Americans won 3-1 in Americas Group I in 2007.
Canada earned its place in the 2026 qualifiers following a 4-0 victory over Israel in the World Group I play-off last September.
