(Orlando) Lindsay Davenport has signed a two-year contract to remain captain of the American Billie Jean King Cup team, the US Tennis Association announced Tuesday.
Davenport led the Americans to the final of the team competition this year, a first for them since 2018. The United States lost to Italy in the final.
Davenport was named captain of the U.S. team in 2024. As a player, she helped the United States win the event three times, in 1996, 1999 and 2000.
She also won three Grand Slam singles titles, reached No. 1 in the WTA world rankings and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2014.
“It is a tremendous honor to serve as captain of Team USA at the Billie Jean King Cup, and I am thrilled and honored to continue in this role, especially during this exceptional time for American women’s tennis,” said Davenport.
With Coco Gauff in third place, Amanda Anisimova in fourth, Jessica Pegula in sixth and Madison Keys in seventh, this season was the first since 2004 to have four Americans in the year-end world top 10.
At the time, Davenport had risen to No. 1 in the world, ahead of Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Jennifer Capriati.
The United States will play the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying matches in April.
