The Russian Embassy announced pressure from Dutch officials on tennis player Griekspoor because of his participation in the tournament in St. Petersburg
The Russian Embassy in the Netherlands on the social network X called on Dutch officials not to put pressure on tennis player Tallon Griekspoor because of his participation in the Northern Palmyra Trophy tournament.
The Trophies of Northern Palmyra tournament took place on November 29–30 in St. Petersburg. Dutchman Griekspoor represented the Lions team, which lost to the Sphinxes team with a score of 100:105.
Earlier, Dutch Foreign Minister David van Wiel called on Griekspoor to withdraw from the tournament.
“We are deeply concerned by the attempts of Dutch officials to put pressure on Tallon Griekspoor in connection with his participation in the Northern Palmyra Trophy tournament in St. Petersburg. “Do not interfere with politics in sports,” the Russian Embassy said in a statement.
Russians Diana Schneider and Anastasia Potapova and Kazakhstani Alexander Bulik also played for Lviv. The Sphinxes included Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan, Russians Daniil Medvedev, Karen Khachanov and Veronika Kudermetova.
