“I don’t want to betray my children.” Sabalenka explained why she does not plan to change citizenship
The first racket of the world, the representative of Belarus, Arina Sabalenka, said that she does not plan to change her citizenship in order to play for another country.
Russian and Belarusian tennis players perform at tournaments under the auspices of the WTA and ATP in a neutral status.
“I have always been very proud to represent such a small country. I consider myself an inspiration to the kids there. Changing citizenship is not an option for me, because I don’t want to betray all these children. “I would like to represent Belarus so that children from this country can see how I perform at a high level and be inspired by my example,” Sabalenka said in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan.
Sabalenka is 27 years old and has won 21 singles titles and four Grand Slam titles in her career.
