French tennis player banned for 20 years for match-fixing
French tennis player Quentin Fogliot has been disqualified for 20 years for his involvement in match-fixing, according to the website of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
The investigation revealed that 26-year-old Foglio was the central figure in a network of gamblers acting on behalf of a crime syndicate that organized match-fixing. The charges against the Frenchman included manipulating match results, accepting money for poor effort in games, offering money to other players to fix matches, providing inside information, conspiracy to commit corruption, failure to cooperate with an ITIA investigation and destruction of evidence.
Foglio’s suspension will expire on May 16, 2044. The Frenchman was also fined 70 thousand dollars. Folliot must pay another $44,000 and was found guilty of 27 violations of the tennis anti-corruption program.
Foglio’s highest position in the ATP rankings was 488th in singles.
