45-year-old Venus Williams will play in the main draw of the Australian Open
Former world number one in singles and doubles, American Venus Williams, received a wild card into the main draw of the Australian Open. This was reported by the press service of the competition.
This will be Williams’ first appearance in competition outside the United States since 2023.
Williams, 45, will become the oldest woman to compete in the main draw of the Australian Open, breaking the record of Japan’s Kimiko Date, who was 44 when she lost in the first round of the 2015 Australian Open.
Williams is a five-time Wimbledon champion and a two-time US Open winner.
The Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne, Australia will take place from January 18 to February 1.
