2024 Olympic champion withdraws from Australian Open 2026
23-year-old Chinese tennis player Zheng Qingwen (WTA 24) will not play at the 2026 Australian Open.
The winner of the 2024 Olympics and the finalist of the Australian Open 2024 announced this on social networks:
“After a thorough evaluation of the situation with the team and on the advice of doctors, I have unfortunately had to withdraw from the Australian Open. This decision was extremely difficult for me; Melbourne is a special, ‘happy’ place for me.”
I have not yet reached the level of physical fitness that I now consider necessary for myself. “I sincerely thank everyone for their support and look forward to returning to the field at 100% and having a strong 2026 season.”
Zheng will miss his second consecutive Grand Slam. In July 2025, the Chinese woman had elbow surgery and did not play in the US Open.
“I have not yet reached the best situation I have set for myself at this time. I cannot thank everyone enough for their continued support and I look forward to returning to the field at 100% and having a strong 2026 season.”
