(Toronto) Montrealer Gabriel Diallo will lead the Canadian delegation during the Davis Cup qualifying match against Brazil on February 6 and 7 in Vancouver.
Diallo, who will be in his 10e consecutive meeting at the Davis Cup, will have as teammates the Quebecer Alexis Galarneau, the Ontarians Liam Draxl and Nicolas Arseneault and the Albertain Cleeve Harper.
Diallo, who is 24 years old, has a record of six wins and six losses in his career in the Davis Cup, but four wins and only one loss in duels played on Canadian soil.
After entering the top 100 in 2024, Diallo took additional steps in 2025 by winning his first career ATP tournament and rising to 33e level, the best ranking of his career.
Diallo also qualified for the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 – that of Madrid – for the first time in his career in 2025.
Diallo begins his 2026 season at the Hong Kong tournament this week, ranked 40e rank.
For his part, Galarneau will be part of Team Canada at the Davis Cup for an 11e meeting in a row. Draxl, 24, is making his fourth nomination for the Canadian team, and Harper, his third. Harper is the best doubles player in the country for men by virtue of his 94e rank.
Draxl occupies 132e singles level, Galarneau, 213e and Arseneault, the 501e.
The winner of this clash will qualify for the second round of qualifying, scheduled for mid-September.
“Last year, for the first time in a long time, we did not reach the final stage of the competition, which motivated us even more to achieve it this year,” underlined the captain of the Canadian team, Frank Dancevic, in the official press release from Tennis Canada.
“It all starts now against an excellent Brazilian team, and I am convinced that our players are ready for the challenge. We look forward to seeing the Canadian fans in Vancouver and count on their support in our journey to the 2026 Davis Cup quarter-finals.”
