Sport.ua together with a betting partner bet announcing the upcoming fight!

Elina Svitolina

Since Elina Svitolina is seeded in Auckland, it seems logical to make it to the final. The Ukrainian player started here by beating Varvara Gracheva, an athlete with a French passport, 6:3, 6:1. They then managed to beat Britain’s Katie Boulter 7:5, 6:4. The toughest match of the tournament so far was the quarter-final against another British player, Sonay Kartal, with scores of 6:4, 6:7, 7:6, and they had to come back from 3:5 in the last match.

The toughest nut to crack in the semi-finals was young American Iva Jovic. The American started, but having lost 0:3 in the first set, Svitolina grabbed victory in the tiebreaker and then confidently took the second set – 7:6, 6:2 in the end. The Ukrainian player came for the championship, now he is just one step away from his goal.

Wang Xinyu

The Chinese athlete can also claim to have performed well as he placed fifth in this tournament. Wang started with a hard-fought 2:6, 6:3, 7:5 victory over American Katie McNally and managed to come back from 0:2 down in the final match. We then managed to overcome the tough Mexican Renata Sarazua – 7:5, 6:4. In the quarter-finals, the Chinese woman took a 6:4, 4:3 lead against Francesca Jones and the British player withdrew from the match.

The most difficult for Wang was the semifinal, where she had to play with Alexandra Eala from the Philippines. In that match, the Chinese woman lost 5:7 3:5, even regaining a match point at 4:5, but eventually made a comeback by winning 5:7, 7:5, 6:4. Although the athlete is 24 years old, he already has enough experience to play at a solid level.

personal meetings

Tennis players have played each other only once – in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2024. The fight did not work out, as Svitolina managed to win in less than an hour: 6:2, 6:1.

To guess

The Ukrainian player will be the favorite of this duo, primarily due to his experience. The Chinese woman is a strong tennis player and will try to compete for the title, overall I am looking forward to an interesting fight. Svitolina has already shown in this tournament that she knows how to win matches even if everything does not go her way.

I think the Ukrainian should take the title here, so I’ll bet on him to win with a match handicap of -3.5.

VIDEO. Sabalenka’s reaction to Kostyuk’s decision not to shake hands after the final

January 11 Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk She lost to world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the WTA 500 challenging tournament held in Brisbane, Australia.

After the meeting, Kostyuk did not shake Sabalenka’s hand – Ukrainian women have not shaken hands with their “neutral” rivals since the beginning of the large-scale war that Russia started on Ukrainian territory with the help of Belarus.

At the press conference, Sabalenka was asked to comment on Marta’s decision not to shake hands at the net:

“That’s their position. What can I do? I don’t care. I don’t care. When I go to the match, it’s just tennis and sports for me. On the court, I just think about my game and what I need to do to win.

I don’t care who is on that side of the net: Marta Kostyuk or Jessica Pegula. I go out on the field the same way and give everything I have to compete for the cup. I have nothing to prove to anyone. “I go out and compete like an athlete.”

For the first time in history, two Ukrainian women played in the finals of WTA tournaments on the same day

January 11, 2026 is a historic date for Ukrainian tennis.

For the first time in history, two Ukrainian tennis players played in the finals of parallel WTA tournaments (category 250 and above).

Sunday Elina Svitolina Defeated Wang Xinyu in the deciding match of the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland and Marta Kostyuk She lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the cup match of the WTA 500 competition in Brisbane.

Ukrainian commentator Alexander Chernenko posted an interesting fact on his Telagram channel: “Has it ever happened before that two Ukrainian women played the final of WTA tournaments on the same day? This never happened at a major Tour event, but it happened once in the WTA 125 category.”

On March 4, 2018, Lesya Tsurenko defeated Stefanie Fegele to become the champion in the WTA 250 tournament held in Acapulco. Katerina Volodko (Bondarenko) lost to Sara Herrana in the WTA 125 final held in Indian Wells on the same day.
