Daniil turned the match against the unyielding Pole. The Russian is already in the semi-finals!

Daniil Medvedev took another confident step at the tournament in Brisbane. In the quarterfinals of the ATP-250 category competition, the Russian tennis player beat the representative of Poland, Kamil Majchszak, in three sets – 6:7 (4:7), 6:3, 6:2.

An equal fight and a cold tiebreaker for the Pole

The match began with Majchszak’s serve, and from the first games it became clear that the Pole was aggressive. He boldly moved forward, actively used shortened ones and was not afraid to take risks during the reception. In the third game, Majkhshak waited for Medvedev’s mistake and scored a break, taking the lead – 3:1.

However, the Pole was unable to maintain his advantage for long. Daniil quickly got involved, became more accurate from the baseline and responded with a reverse break. Then the set turned into an exchange of games on their serves: both tennis players confidently took their games, not allowing the opponent to create serious pressure.

With the score 6:6, the fate of the game was decided in a tiebreaker. Here Maikhshak played a little calmer and cleaner. He performed better on the receiving end, and forced Medvedev to make mistakes in key plays. An excellent move at the end allowed the Pole to take the first set – 7:6 (7:4).

Medvedev’s delivery and patience

In the second game, Medvedev noticeably improved. First of all – on the serve. The aces came one after another, and the rallies on their serve became shorter and calmer. Medvedev began to impose a high tempo on his opponent more often and force Majkhshak to play to the limit.

The key moment occurred when the score was 3:2 in favor of the Russian. Daniil increased his aggression, confidently worked his forehand and managed to get a break, taking advantage of the Pole’s mistakes. This gap turned out to be decisive: Majkhshak was no longer able to impose a fight at the reception.

Medvedev demonstrated maximum composure. Three aces in a row – and the second set remained with the Russian – 6:4. The score in the games was equalized, and the psychological advantage passed to Daniil’s side.

Full control and a confident finish

The decisive game started perfectly for Medvedev. Already in the first game, he made a break, powerfully attacking from a forehand along the line and forcing Majkhshak to shoot into touch. Having consolidated his success with a confident serve, the Russian quickly took the lead 2:0.

Then the match actually went one way. Medvedev kept his games calm, minimized mistakes and methodically pressed his opponent with long rallies. Soon Daniil scored a second break, after which the intrigue practically disappeared.

Majkhshak managed to take one more game, but he was not enough for more. Medvedev confidently served for the match and finished the match with a score of 6:2 – the Pole’s mistake from the backhand put an end to this confrontation.

The result was a strong-willed victory for Medvedev and access to the semi-finals of the tournament in Brisbane. The Russian gradually improved as the match progressed, survived a difficult start and was noticeably more reliable than his opponent at decisive moments. Daniil will compete with American Alex Michelsen to reach the finals, and his performance in the quarterfinals makes it clear that he is approaching the decisive matches of the tournament in good shape and with a reserve of confidence. And this is a great sign at the beginning of the season.
