The Brisbane final will take Marta Kostyuk into the top 20 of the WTA rankings
Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, thanks to reaching the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane (Australia), will rise to the top 20 of the world rankings, regardless of the outcome of the decisive match against the representative of the Lukashenko collective farm, Arina Sabalenka.
Thanks to reaching the Brisbane final, Martha has already gained 324 rating points and moved from 26th to 20th place. The Ukrainian beat Belgian Elise Mertens, Canadian Leila Fernandez, neutral-looking Katsak Diana Schneider, Latvian Alena Ostapenko, Chinese Zheng Qingwen and Spaniard Paula Badosa. If Kostyuk wins the final, he will be able to move up two places, but it is too early to talk about this.
Let us remind you that in Brisbane, Marta beat three current representatives of the top 10 of the WTA rankings (American Amanda Anisimova, Muscovite Mirra Andreeva and American Jessica Pegula) and a former representative, Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan. I would like to believe that the last of this collection will be the rating leader Sabalenko, who strengthened her position by winning 205 points, regardless of the outcome of the final.
Elina Svitolina will also move up the WTA rankings next week, thanks to reaching the finals of the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland (New Zealand). It has already increased its ranking by 163 points and will move from 13th to 12th. If she wins the final against Chinese Wan Xinyu, Elina will remain in 12th place. The 11th will remain out of reach for now.
At the end of this matchweek, the biggest setback was suffered by the previously mentioned Putintseva. After losing to Kostyuk in 1/16 in Brisbane, he will lose 31 places and fall out of the top 100, falling from 74th to 105th.
