Mirra Andreeva – about winning the first round of the Australian Open: “I thank myself, I don’t know why my team is even sitting in the box”
Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva, after winning the first round of the Australian Open, again thanked herself and also joked about the role of coaches in this success.
Andreeva, the eighth seed, defeated Croatian Donna Vekic with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 6:0.
– Yes, I did everything myself and I thank myself. I don’t know why my team is sitting in the box at all (laughs). Honestly, I’m very happy with the way I came back into the game after losing the first set. Tried to play my best tennis, tried to be brave. So yes, again I only thank myself!
After the first set I lost, I remained focused and acted according to plan. I gained an understanding: no matter what happens on the court, you need to remain brave.
— How much do your successes depend on the fact that you are now the owner of a puppy?
— I am very glad that a puppy has appeared in our family. I felt better, calmer. This shows both on and off the court. So just get yourself a dog, and everything will be fine,” Andreeva said on court.
The next opponent of the first racket of Russia at the Grand Slam tournament will be Maria Sakkari from Greece.
