Wawrinka: “This is my last AO, so I’m trying to last as long as possible. How will I recover? I’ll drink beer”
Three-time Grand Slam winner Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka said he will drink beer after reaching the third round of the Australian Open.
On Thursday, 40-year-old Wawrinka beat 21-year-old Frenchman Arthur Jas with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 3:6, 7:5, 7:6 (10:3). The tennis players spent 4.5 hours on the court.
– I’m exhausted. This is my last Australian Open, so I’m trying to last as long as possible. Not only did I enjoy it, but you, the fans, gave me a huge boost of energy. I am no longer young, so I need your energy, additional energy from you. It’s an amazing feeling to be on this court and hear the noise and support.
I will always give my 100%. Always trying my best, trying to outdo myself. I don’t know how I’ll recover, but I’m very happy. Maybe I’ll have a beer. “I deserve it,” Wawrinka said in an on-court interview.
Wawrinka’s next opponent will be American Taylor Fritz (number 9 seed).
