Anisimova’s surprise exit from Osaka in the ’32’ of the Australian Open
Naomi Osaka (world No. 14) fell victim to an upset in the ’32’ stage of the Australian Open when Amanda Anisimova (world No. 60) eliminated her in sets 2-1 (4-6, 6-4 , 7-6 ) and celebrated a huge qualification.
The Australian Open will have a different winner than 2021. That was made possible by Amanda Anisimova (No. 60 in the world), who eliminated last year’s winner Naomi Osaka (No. 14 in the world) by 2-1 sets (4-6), 6-4, 7-6 (5)) in the “32” phase.
The American tennis player showed character. Unfazed by the first set lost (4-6), he immediately responded to the second with the same result (6-4) and gave … a fight, giving it his all in a shocking third set. There he found himself at 4-5 but broke two match points from Osaka and eventually sent the set into a tie break. There he showed character and won 7-5 and celebrated a great qualification.
In the next round, Anisimova meets Ashley Barty (world No. 1), who easily knocked out Camila George (world No. 33) with a 2-0 set.
