Corne’s cry for qualification and the terrible moment with Dokic
Alize Corne burst into tears after her big qualifier against Aleppo, while she even made Jelena Dokic cry at the end.
Alize Corne had unique moments on Monday morning. The French tennis player (No. 61) in the world has qualified for the quarterfinals of the Australian Open with a great qualifier against Simona Halep. This was her first time in the top 8 of a Grand Slam in her 63rd attempt.
Immediately after the end of the game, Alize Corne burst into tears and took all the intensity out of the moment, while the interview with Jelena Dokic that followed was emotionally charged.
The pair have known each other since stepping onto the pitches together, with Dokic now taking on the role of commentator.
In fact, the two shared a story on court about a match they never had in 2009, as Corne failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2009 tournament.
“I wanted to play you so badly, I was very disappointed. I liked your game so much, I was excited.” said France, No. 60 in the world, with tears in his eyes.
In fact, at the end of her remarks, she asked people to applaud Dokic for what she has accomplished both inside and outside the court.
“Congratulations on how you have shaped your life. You were a great player and now you’re a great commentator. he told her while Dokic rushed to hug her and cry too.

Ukraine’s first racket Elina Svitolina (WTA 14) became the “Opening Week” participant of the Australian Open 2026.
On January 14, 2026, the Ukrainian will play an exhibition match against Amanda Anisimova (USA, WTA 4) at the tournament’s main stadium, Rod Laver Arena.
The meeting will be held in the format of two standard sets as the deciding game and a super tiebreak up to 10 points.
There will also be four more exhibition matches: Elena Rybakina – Zheng Qingwen, Alexander Zverev – Lorenzo Musetti, Carlos Alcaraz – Alex de Minaur, Jannik Sinner – Felix Auger-Aliassime.
After the match between Svitolina and Anisimova, Rod Laver Arena will host the AO 1 Point Slam tournament, where tennis stars Iga Swiatek, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, Daniil Medvedev, Zheng Qingwen, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jasmine Paolini will compete against amateurs.

Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced the list of all award winners for the 2025 season.
World number one Arina Sabalenka was chosen as the best tennis player of the year. Hendrik Vleshouwers, coach of American Amanda Anisimova, received the best coach award.
Anisimova received the Progress of the Year award, while Victoria Mboko received the Newcomer of the Year award. Katerina Sinyakova / Taylor Townsend couple was chosen as the best duet of the season.
