The big time of the Australian Open semifinals
Rafael Nadal meets Matteo Beretini at 05:30 at Rod Laver Arena, while Stefanos Tsitsipas meets Rafael Nadal at 10:30.
Friday (28/1) looks set to be an exciting day for the Australian Open as the two men’s semi-finals will be played where the top 4 of the tournament will battle it out for a place in Sunday’s grand final.
Appointment with the story about Stefanos
Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 4), who had an excellent run at this year’s Australian Open, meets Daniel Medvedev (No. 2) for a place in the final at 10.30 a.m. (Eurosport 1 and LIVE on Sportish) at Rod Laver at the earliest Arena und Wille is the second semi-final of the day.
The Greek champions are chasing their first qualification for a final at the Australian Open and second overall at a Grand Slam in a repeat of last year’s semifinal against No. 2 Medvedev. The two tennis players have met eight times in the past, most recently in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros 2021, where Tsitsipas won 3-0.
Stefanos comes off an amazing performance and a 3-0 win over the talented Yannick Sinner, while Medvedev had to ‘sweat’ against Felix Ozer Aliasim, beating him 3-2 after a reversal in a match that lasted almost 5 hours. !
In the dream of 21 Rafa
Mateo Beretini (No. 7) will be the next hurdle for Rafa Nadal (No. 5) to overcome on his way into history and the 21st Grand Slam of his career. The two tennis players will not meet before 5:30 a.m at Rod Laver Arena in the first semi-final of the day.
The Spaniard has surpassed this year’s Australian Open as he put on amazing performances after an injury-related 5-month absence from games, reaching the semi-finals and keeping alive hopes of winning a record-breaking 21st Grand Slam. On the other hand, Mateo Beretini has another great course in Slam, reaching his 3rd semi-final and will follow his presence in the 2nd final of Slam in his career. The pair have met before at the 2019 US Open where Rafa clinched the win 3-0.
Nadal comes off a difficult and challenging 3-2 win over Denis Sapovalov. Matteo Beretini’s victory was also very difficult, overcoming Gael Monfis’ obstacle with 3-2.
Mixed doubles final
The Rod Laver Arena program will open with the final doubles final, in which the duo of Ivan Dodig / Kristina Mladenovic will meet Jason Kumbler / Jamie Fourlis. The game takes place at 03:00.
