Nadal: ‘I didn’t think I had a chance at a title here’
After beating Beretini, Rafael Nadal said, among other things, that he does not expect to win another title at the Australian Open.
In his statements in court immediately after the end of the match with Matteo Beretini, in which he won 3-1 and qualified for the final of the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal stated, among other things, that he did not expect a complaint about another title in the Australian tournament.
At the same time, he emphasized that in his head there was only what he was doing in the specific tournament and not the record of Grand Slam victories. The Spanish tennis player is waiting for the winner of the pair, between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniel Medvedev, which will take place at 10:30 (Eurosport 1 and Live Sportish).
For the game: “The first two movements were among the best I’ve played in a long time. I knew that against Mateo, who is a great player, I had to suffer and sweat to win.
He played well in the third set and I knew I had to end the match in the 4th. This qualification means a lot to me. I woke up better than ever today. The conditions were difficult because of the heat, but today was better“
Finally, on whether he has the record of Grand Slam conquests in mind: “I’m focused on what I’m going to do here (and not on the 21 Grand Slam tally). I’ve had injuries in my career, I’ve played great finals with Roger, Novak and other great athletes. I was lucky enough to win here in 2009 and I didn’t think I would have another chance at a title here“.
