Tsitsipas: “Medvedev was better, he’s not the most mature”

Stefanos Tsitsipas acknowledged Medvedev’s superiority but pointed out that the Russian isn’t the most mature tennis player, referring to his outburst while also providing a response on coaching.

Speaking after his defeat to Daniel Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas acknowledged the Russian’s superiority in the semifinals of the Australian Open.

First, the 23-year-old tennis player explained: “Defeat is always defeat. I fight every game to the end, but today he played better tennis than me. I have to learn from this experience and improve my performance. I won’t focus on the negative. We have a great season ahead us us opportunities that I will try to seize.

I want to improve physically, mentally and improve my game in general. “Today’s game is a good lesson for me for the future.”

When asked about Medvedev’s outburst in the second set, he said: Definitely fun. I don’t pay attention to such things. I know players who do it to upset you, maybe it’s a tactic. He’s alright, he’s not the most mature person after all”.

He then pointed out again that he would not take any instructions from his father: “It wasn’t coaching. You saw how I lost my score in my games the other day. I don’t hear anything when I’m playing, it’s impossible. When people are screaming so loud at every point, you have to have tremendous hearing for me could hear your coach “I laughed the other day because I think my coach was 5km away in the match with Per and I got a warning. That was the funnest moment of the tournament.”.

From the moment he received the warning in the fourth set, he seemed upset, which he says isn’t true: “I’m used to it. They’ve been aiming at me for a long time. I’ve had warnings in the past and the referees take care of my box, they never look at the opponent’s box. I’ve been a victim for a long time. They never will understand that I don’t hear anything when I play “I try to find solutions, read the game before the point. The last thing I want is for someone to give me direction and advice. I’m not one to listen when I play I can do that in training.”.

When asked if he had spoken to his father about the matter, he said: “Yes, I spoke to him. My father is a man who wants to be involved when something is intense. He likes to talk, you can’t stop him. It’s something that comes naturally to him. I’ve talked to him about it, I’ve spent countless hours trying to figure it out, but it’s a part of him. I’m sure he will continue to get coaching violations, although I can’t hear a word of what he’s saying. But it’s okay, they can keep doing it if they see fit.

That was one of the reasons I went public last year and said coaching should be allowed because coaches do it anyway. Most save it and do it in a pretty clever way, I can assure you. I’ve seen coaches do it and not be punished in many cases. “If coaching is allowed, there will be less tension and things will become clearer in every way.”
