Nadal: The Spaniard turned 0-2 for the fourth time in his career

Rafael Nadal’s 2-0 defeat in the Australian Open final was only the fourth in his great career.

There are successes that even great athletes like Rafael Nadal find difficult. Like turning a game 2-0 behind goal.

Rafa managed against Daniel Medvedev to win his 21st Grand Slam title, albeit only for the fourth time and at the same time for the first time in 14 years.

The first time he did so was in 2005 in the final of the Madrid champions. Ivan Ljubicic then easily won the first two sets 3-6 and 2-6, but Rafa sent the match into the fifth set, which he won in the tie-break.

He caused a stir the next two times at Wimbledon. In 2006, Robert knocked out Kendrick Rafa in the second round of the tournament but Nadal caused an uproar.

A year later, Nadal had his back against the wall in the fourth round of Michael Yuzni, but again found a way to react and claim victory.

In recent years we have seen reversals in 0-2 endgames many times. For example, it happened at Roland Garros last year when Djokovic canceled out Stefanos Tsitsipas’ 2-0 loss to him, while Tim made a similar upset against Zverev at the 2020 US Open.

But there is also a Grand Slam where the last such fall in a final made history. We’re talking about Wimbledon, where he last saw such a reversal in a final almost 100 years ago.

Especially in 1927 by Enrique Cose, who had then defeated Jean Borrotra 3-2.
