Rafael Nadal won his second Australian Open title at the age of 13, setting a record in the Open era but not in the history of the tournament.
One would expect the 13-year difference between winning two titles at the Australian Open to be a record, as that’s something, but that’s not exactly the case for Rafael Nadal.
The Spaniard managed to top the relevant list in the Open Era (from 1968) after winning his first title in Australia in 2009 and second in 2022, but not in the history of the tournament since the top belongs to someone else .
More specifically to Ken Roswell. The legendary Australian tennis player, holder of 8 solo Grand Slam titles, celebrated four times at his home country’s Grand Slam.
The first two were in 1953 and 1955 and then it took sixteen years to celebrate again. Notably, Ken Roswell won the Australian Open again in 1971, only to repeat his feat a year later.
