Nadal: “21st Grand Slam is not enough”
Rafa Nadal returned home stating that winning the 21st Grand Slam of his career wasn’t enough for him…
Rafael Nadal, who returned to his hometown with the Australian Open trophy in his luggage, has been in Mallorca since Wednesday (February 2nd).
The Melbourne winner went to his academy premises in Monaco, where he was photographed with the trophy and gave a press conference to his compatriots.
His wife Maria Francesca Paregio was waiting for him in front of the airport in the capital Palma.
Speaking to his compatriots at the Rafa Nadal Academy, the 35-year-old Spaniard stressed that the 21st Grand Slam of his career was probably not enough to give him a chance to end his career with more Major titles and believed that Djokovic, possibly Federer, will have chances in the future.
“I want to be the one who has won the most Grand Slams, but I’m definitely not obsessed with it. Whatever comes is welcome, but I honestly don’t think 21 is enough. But you never know what will happen in the future,” he said, typically Nadal.
Novak Djokovic has not had a chance to defend his title in Australia after being deported from the country but appears to be getting vaccinated to avoid facing similar problems in the future.
Nadal, who has only played his second tournament in the last 5 months due to injury, emphasized that he is still in pain but has managed to raise the level of his game.
“This win gives me a huge boost and confidence to move forward. I was able to enjoy the sport at the highest level again, which was very difficult to imagine a few weeks ago,” he said.
