Roger Federer spoke in Switzerland and stood by Rafael Nadal, for example.

Roger Federer gave an interview to one of his big sponsors on Wednesday (February 2nd) and referred to the shocking final of the Australian Open and of course to his friend Rafael Nadal.

The 40-year-old Swiss national, who has had his third knee operation and may return to action in the summer, revealed that he witnessed the final moments of the Nadal-Medvedev final and that he was very happy with Rafa’s success.

What Rafa, Novak and Sampras have done is amazing and I was fortunate to share the space with them. It was an honor for me. I couldn’t be happier. I saw Rafa in the final moments of the final. With so many kids, I couldn’t see anymore, but I saw the end and it’s really wonderful to see those feelings after such a difficult win.

Rafa told me that a few months ago he wasn’t very comfortable with his body and now he’s holding the Australian Open trophy in his hands. Dreams come true and that’s a good example with Rafa. He’s a great role model. Tennis offers wonderful stories.

It is important for tennis to have young and young fans and it is important to have rivalries in tennis. At first I thought I didn’t need anyone to get better. Then came Rafa, Novak, Roddick, Hewitt and I think I learned something from everyone. I’m glad they were there and I’ve taken lessons from them at all levels, although some people have withheld some records from me. I’m happy for anyone who breaks a record because I know how difficult it ishe said characteristically.
