Toulouse FC are closing in on the signing of Feyenoord Rotterdam striker Casper Tengstedt as the Ligue 1 club steps up its transfer activity ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
The summer transfer window closes on Tuesday, September 1, at 7:59 PM, leaving Toulouse management working urgently to secure multiple recruits following a 2-2 draw against Brest on Saturday evening.
Head coach Jens Berthel Askou publicly requested squad reinforcements after his side conceded a late equalising goal to Brest forward Ludovic Ajorque in the final seconds of the match. Speaking on Ligue 1+, Askou admitted that nobody knows what can happen in the final hours, but stressed that there was still work to be done before the window shuts. The Danish manager also called the late draw in Finistere a lesson for his players and openly campaigned to retain midfielder Cristian Casseres, whose future at the club remains uncertain.
Agreement reached for Tengstedt
Toulouse have made securing a new center-forward a top priority following the departure of Emersonn to English side Ipswich Town. Tengstedt, 26, arrived in Toulouse late last week to resolve final contract details after Toulouse agreed a 4 million euro fee excluding bonuses with Feyenoord, according to reports from Foot Mercato.
The Danish forward previously worked under Askou during their time together at Danish club Horsens before spending time at Benfica in Portugal and Hellas Verona in Italy. Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed on Sunday that Tengstedt was left out of his matchday squad due to an impending departure.
The move for Tengstedt comes as Casseres and defender Rasmus Nicolaisen earned praise for leading performances against Brest, while summer defensive addition Djibril Diallo and midfielder Nicolas Vignolo struggled to make an impact.
Midfield reinforcement from Strasbourg
Toulouse are also set to complete the signing of RC Strasbourg midfielder Mathis Amougou on a season-long loan without an option to buy, according to reports in L'Equipe. The 20-year-old French youth international, who has one cap and one goal for the France U20 national team, was purchased by Strasbourg from English Premier League club Chelsea for 12 million euros in July 2025.
Amougou accumulated 794 minutes of playing time for Strasbourg last season after starting his professional career at Saint-Etienne. He moves to Toulouse seeking regular playing time and consistency, mirroring a loan deal arranged between Toulouse and Strasbourg last winter. Toulouse hope Amougou can replicate the impact made by Senegalese midfielder Pape Demba Diop under former manager Carles Martinez Novell.
Amougou's arrival will provide depth and technical quality to a Toulouse midfield that recently integrated promising Danish recruit Thomas Jorgensen, who joined the club earlier in the transfer window.
Bid submitted for Hajduk Split defender
In defense, Toulouse have submitted an offer of around 4 million euros for Hajduk Split player Niko Sigur, according to Croatian media outlet Tportal. The French club's proposal has surpassed competing offers from Scottish side Celtic Glasgow and Belgian club Genk, leading the Croatian outfit to consider the sale.
Sigur, 22, is a Canadian international with 22 caps and two goals who represented Canada at the FIFA World Cup. Primarily trained as a defensive midfielder, Sigur offers versatility across the back line, with the ability to fill in at center-back or right-back.
The Canadian player, who is a national teammate of Toulouse forward Jacen Russell-Rowe, is actively pushing to leave Croatia before the deadline, according to reports from TSN. Although talks between the clubs are moving in a positive direction, no final agreement has been reached.
Toulouse have already reinforced their defensive options this summer by signing Diallo, Ylies Tape and Dayann Odogu. While Nicolaisen and Mark McKenzie remain established first-choice central defenders, neither full-back position has a fixed starter, creating an opening for Sigur in squad rotation.
Off the pitch, Toulouse supporters are preparing for the new campaign at the Stadium de Toulouse, which features upgraded fan facilities and the launch of the club's first all-female fan club.
