Toulouse Football Club suffered a frustrating 0-1 defeat at home against Lille OSC in Ligue 1 on Wednesday evening, despite dominating play and generating 24 shots on goal at the Stadium de Toulouse.
The result leaves Toulouse with just one point from their opening three league matches under new head coach Jens Berthel Askou. Lille extended their unbeaten start to the season with the hard-fought victory on the road.
Toulouse created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the third round encounter but failed to find the back of the net. Forward Russell-Rowe had several chances to break the deadlock for the home side, while midfielder Cristian Casseres saw a powerful strike rattle off the crossbar. Despite taking 24 total shots, the host team could not breach the Lille defense.

Following that match, Askou noted that letting two points slip away late in the game served as an important lesson for his squad. Match ratings from the Brest fixture praised Casseres and Rasmus Nicolaisen for performing as defensive leaders, while younger teammates Gabriel Vignolo and Djibril Diallo struggled during critical phases of play.
Lille Maintain Strong Record at Toulouse
Lille arrived at the Stadium de Toulouse sitting third in the Ligue 1 standings with four points from two matches. In their previous league outing on August 28, Lille secured a 2-2 draw against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain after holding a two-goal lead until the 90+1st minute of play.
The visitors also possessed an impressive recent record at the Stadium de Toulouse, having claimed a 0-4 victory at the venue in April of last season. Since Toulouse earned promotion back to France top division in 2022, the club has managed only one victory in four home encounters against Lille, a 3-1 win recorded in February 2024.

Toulouse have been active in the final hours of the summer transfer window to bolster their squad options. The club completed the signing of Danish striker Casper Tengstedt for nearly 4 million euros, making him the fourth Danish player in the current TFC squad.
