Vinicius Jr has signed a new six-year contract extension with Real Madrid to remain at the Spanish club until June 2032.
The Brazilian winger agreed to a net annual salary of 24 million euros, though the deal does not include the renewal bonus his representatives had requested. Real Madrid moved quickly to finalize terms to avoid losing the player on a free transfer in June 2027, amid strong interest from Arsenal.
Face-to-face negotiations earlier this week between Real Madrid executive Jose Angel Sanchez and the player's representatives resolved the outstanding points within hours. Shortly before the agreement was reached, Vinicius deleted all photos from his social media accounts, prompting widespread transfer speculation.
He later updated his official Instagram profile with a photograph of himself kissing the Real Madrid crest. Vinicius wrote that eight years at the Santiago Bernabeu felt very short, adding that he will stay for six more seasons and forever while expressing his gratitude to Sanchez and club president Florentino Perez.
Contract terms and club longevity
Perez has supported Vinicius since the forward joined the club at age 18. During his presidential election campaign, Perez said that those advocating for the sale of Vinicius were rivals of Real Madrid.
Vinicius is about to start his ninth season with the team. If he completes the full length of his new agreement through June 2032, when he will be nearly 32 years old, he will reach 14 seasons with Real Madrid. That tally would make him the foreign player with the second-most seasons in club history, behind only Marcelo, who spent 16 seasons in Madrid and played a key role in helping his compatriot adapt.
Reaching 14 seasons would also bring Vinicius closer to recent club legends such as Sergio Ramos, Raul, and Iker Casillas, who each played 16 seasons for Real Madrid. Vinicius initially began his career in Spain playing matches for Real Madrid Castilla before breaking into the first team.
Titles and career milestones
Former teammate Toni Kroos was among the first to react on social media, writing a message of relief to the forward. Vinicius has won 14 titles during his time with Real Madrid, including three La Liga championships and two Champions League titles.
He scored pivotal goals in both Champions League final victories, netting against Liverpool in Paris and against Borussia Dortmund in London. Across 375 appearances for the club, Vinicius has scored 128 goals while developing into a regular contender for the Ballon d'Or.
Following the 2022 European final, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that any player who scores the winning goal in a Champions League final achieves legend status. Vinicius has complemented team sessions with individual training and strict professional discipline to enhance his performances.
Pre-season return and new management
After returning from his vacation following the World Cup in the United States, Vinicius resumed training and held his first conversations with new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho. Vinicius said the initial discussion went very well, adding that Mourinho instructed him to stay happy, joyful, and continue playing his style of football.
