Two-time world volleyball champion, two-time Olympic silver medalist Ekaterina Gamova believes that the decision to allow Russian volleyball players to compete is at the discretion of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
– Anything is possible, but everything will be at the discretion of the International Volleyball Federation. There was already a precedent when athletes were allowed to compete at the discretion of the FIVB, and the volleyball federation was one of the first to say that it had no claims against Russian athletes, Gazeta.Ru quoted Gamova as saying.
On February 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued an appeal to international sports federations and recommended that they not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in any competitions. Also, many competitions with the participation of foreign athletes were transferred from Russia. At the moment, the FIVB follows this recommendation: it announced the non-admission of the Russian men’s and women’s teams to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.

- FIVB must pay Russia about 50 million euros for the deprivation of the 2022 World Cup in volleyball
- Coach Voronkov should not be afraid of sanctions for racism from the FIVB, says Spiridonov
