Shlyapnikov believes that the absence of Russian teams at the Olympics will harm the development of world volleyball
Former head coach of the Russian men’s volleyball team Sergei Shlyapnikov believes that the non-admission of the men’s and women’s national teams to qualify for the 2024 Olympics will impoverish the main competitions of the four years.
Earlier it became known that the men’s and women’s teams of Russia will not play in the qualifying tournament of the 2024 Olympic Games due to suspension from international competitions. This information appeared on the website of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
– Of course, the Russian team at any competition is a contender for medals. In any competition, the highest tasks are set before us. Games with the Russian national team give pleasure to the audience in terms of entertainment, intensity, and individual skill. This is the difference between the schools of Russian, Asian, European volleyball – they showed advantages and beauty. The entertainment of volleyball lies in the struggle of these schools. We have an attacker, while the Asian ones, on the contrary, have a defensive plan. What wins, what prevails – this is the beauty and spectacle of our sport.
You know, the men’s team won silver medals at the last Games. Absence from the Olympics, of course, will impoverish both the male and female half. Women in the group stage defeated the Americans, who became champions. The absence of our national teams will impoverish the Olympic competitions! Any Olympics is an impetus, it shows what path of development volleyball will take in the next four-year cycle. One of the trendsetters are Russian national teams. Finding the right way, how to develop, will not be easy for world volleyball.
This generation may have a good future career. Young and talented girls came to the women’s team, whose careers can turn out quite well, – Shlyapnikov told the Championship.
The IOC recommended in February not to allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in the competition due to the situation in Ukraine. In March, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) followed the recommendations of the IOC.
The Paris Olympics will take place July 26-August 11, 2024.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

Volleyball players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” beat “Nova” and won their fifth victory in a row in the Super League
St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–2 (25:17, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25, 15:13). Zenit extended its winning streak in the Super League to five matches.
In other matches of the day, Zenit Kazan beat Krasnoyarsk Yenisey at home – 3-1 (25:18, 25:20, 25:27, 25:20), the Dynamo-LO club (Sosnovy Bor) defeated Kemerovo Kuzbass at home – 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:20).
The leader in the table is Zenit Kazan (16 wins, 45 points), Zenit from St. Petersburg (14 wins, 43 points) is second.
