Shlyapnikov believes that it will be difficult for Russian volleyball players to find motivation after not being allowed to qualify for the Olympics-2024
Former coach of the Russian national volleyball team Sergei Shlyapnikov praised the decision of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) not to allow the men’s and women’s national teams of Russia to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“It’s too bad that we won’t take part in the 2024 Olympics. Lately it has shown that this will happen. I think somewhere they were ready for this. But for many players and athletes, the Olympics is the pinnacle of their sports career. Anyone wants to reach the end of their career, to the very peak – victory at the Olympics. Of course, removing such competition from athletes is not easy for them, for further and today’s motivation.
For some it could be the last Olympics, for others it could be an opportunity to make a name for themselves: these are contracts, money, future prospects, families. It’s complicated. I repeat, it will be very difficult for many athletes now to find motivation for further work, ”Championship” quotes Shlyapnikov.
The Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
