Panathinaikos 3-0 Olympiakos: The Greens won the first derby with a recital by Anthoulis
Panathinaikos, who had Martha Anthoulis in attack on a big day, defeated Olympiakos 3-0 in the first all-time derby of the Women’s Volley League. PAOK and Markopoulos drew 2/2.
In contrast to the first game against PAOK, Panathinaikos was decisive and managed to win against Olympiakos 3-0 in the first-ever Women’s Volley League derby of the year.
Trifylli with a pressing service and Anthoulis on a big day aggressively managed to completely dominate the field. The 18-year-old Diagonal finished the game with 24 points and had significant help from Anae and Medic in scoring goals.
Of course, none of the greens were behind after Roga did the dirty work again along with Grothes, Papafotiou shared the game well while Hatziefstratiadou helped in all areas, with the highlight being her serve where she went and went 17-14 in the decider at 24-15!
On the other hand, Olympiacos had many problems in reception while only Koumboura helped in the offensive part with 15 points.
The match: Panathinaikos and Anthoulis started the game strongly 8-3, tagging Salas in reception and forcing Olympiakos to make mistakes. The ‘Red-Whites’, spearheaded by Koumboura, narrowed to (10-6, 12-8) but the home side had aggressive solutions to keep the difference (14-8 with three consecutive points from Hatziefstratiadou). With Koumboura’s ace, Olympiacos made it 14-10, but Panathinaikos with Anae and Anthoulis escaped at +6 (16-10) and 19-11, creating a safety lead. Olympiacos nagged with Emmanuilidou (23-17) and Hatzievestratiadou’s first time-out (23-18), with the ‘Greens’ going 25-19 to get the 1-0 set first.
The start of the second set was similar for Panathinaikos, with Anthoulis dominating aggressively (5-1) and Olympiakos initially trying to find calm in their reception, reducing Salas to 8-5. With an attack from Koumboura and an out from Hatziefstratiadou, the “Red-Whites” shortened again, while they drew 10:10 against Salas. With a block from Medić on Koombura and an ace from Anae on Kosma, the home team built +5 (17-13) again. At 21:15, Genitsaridis took Sala’s place, an out by Anthoulis made it 22:17, while the international diagonal made it 25:18 for the 2-0 set.
Olympiacos started Genitsaridis in the third set’s starting formation in place of Sala and went 3-5 with Koumboura as the main representative of his effort. Genitsaridis took an ace to 3-6, while PAO held Medits, Anae and an Olympiakos error at 6-6 to remain unbroken 9-6 after a 3-0 run. The visitors with Genitsaridis and Emmanuilidou reduced to 13-11 while Miceli changed the libero with Antonakaki replacing Kosmas (15-11). Olympiacos pressed and reduced to 16-14 but Hatzievstratiadou served 17-14 and Panathinaikos with an impressive run (7-0) wrote 24-14. The set finished 25-15, with the international diagonal ending the game for the final 3-0 set.

PAOK also passed Voula
PAOK made it 2×2 in the women’s volley league, leaving Voula with the three points. Thetis started the 1st set with three blocks (3-1 but ran out by the end), with PAOK turning 5-4 into 5-10 (with a Blanco serve) to easily go 0-1.
In the second round, the Black and Whites got away well with 1:6, but Thetis quickly made up the difference (3:6, 6:7) and took the lead at 7:10 with their own 5:0 series (12-10) to continue the twists and turns to the finale. PAOK with Vergidou on serve led 12-15 but the response came with the block first (13-15, 16-15 with three runs) and with Hardeman’s serve Thetis went 18-18, 21-18 to reach 24-21. He however, failed to complete a phase where PAOK erased three sets of bowls (at 24-22 there was an unlikely rally where Vergidou made a terrible synchro and Politanska was confused by Polynopoulous space) and at 25-25 the ace of Chioga (who took the place of Strandzali on serve) and an attack by Cefry led to the final score of 25:27.
Now PAOK had psychology on their side and with the early lead (1-3, 2-5) quickly went to 6-11… The difference varied between five and three points (10-15, 13-16) by the 16-19 which became 16-22 to finally end the game.
