Olympiacos – Finikas 3:0: With a super hidalgo, the red and white won easily
With Hidalgo once again outstanding, Olympiacos beat Phoenix 3-0 in the derby that ended the men’s volleyball league schedule on Saturday.
Olympiacos – Phoinikas was a one-set derby after the red-whites were much more ready to play and easily won the match 3-0.
Hidalgo was a big star for the Red and Whites. The German-Cuban was terrible, with 19 points, leading his attack with terrible percentages (15/18 attacks), while his serve destroyed Finikas’ reception with the climax of the two aces with which he ended the match. His worthy backers were Stern and Koumendakis, with Travitsa straining his limbs.
At the other end, Michalovic was hopelessly alone in attack with 13 points after both Fromm and Klinkenberg were flat.
Olympiacos won the first two sets more easily than expected and in the third set, when it was pressed, it showed great power in attack and on serve, taking the clear victory with Hidalgo as the first scorer with 19 points and a 15/18 finish in attacks and an efficiency of 83% with 3 aces and 1 block.
Phoenix had slow reception and her offense was moving at low percentages. Phoenix came into the match from the 3rd set where they had plenty of chances to win it as they took a 24-22 lead with a Djuric block, but Olympiacos managed to equalize 24-24 with two star points.
Koumentakis and Dzuric lost their serves (25-25) and Intaglko went 26-25 and 27-26. Phoinikas passed with a block from Charalambidis 29-28 and Olympiacos with a 3-0 run off the points from Klinkenberg’s lost serve and Hidalgo’s 2 aces made it 31-29 in the middle of the apotheosis to take the big win.

Kifisia easily beat OFI
With the block as a weapon, leading players Chivers, Moreira and first goalscorer Okosanovic who scored 18 points, Kifisia defeated OFI 3-0 on Matchday 2 to sit first in the table with 6 points and no set drop.
OFI showed an improvement compared to the premier game against Panathinaikos, they struggled the first two sets but in the third they were way behind in score. It is worth noting that in the 1st set the 18-5 became 18-19, but Kifisia won the set with a good serve from Chaivic and mistakes from the Cretans. In the 2nd set, OFI led 21-20 but couldn’t hold the lead as Kifisia was more efficient and organized in his game and showed the right reactions under pressure.
In the first set of the game, Okosanovic’s good serve crushed OFI’s reception and Kifisia took a 4-1 lead. The visitors equalized 5-5 by scoring points from the block, but again service from the home team made the difference and gave Kifisia a 10-6 lead.
The “Blue-Whites” continued to “press” better and, after a mistake by Shikoku, reached halftime with a four-point “air” 13-9. The Cretans responded, beating Jarvis 14-12. Then the two teams kept the team out, with the hosts staying ahead 17-15. The guests, who won “fights” at the net, took consecutive points and passed 19-18.
Kifissia showed “stubbornness” and with Ricardo’s block on Jarvis he took the lead 22-21 while a lucky ace from Chevers went to +2, 23-21. The hosts won a double bowl set 24-22 after an attack from Okosanovic and eventually won the set 25-22 after Adami crossed the net.
In the 2nd set, Kifisia might have trailed 2-0, but with Filippakopoulos on serve, they won 5 points in a row and overtook them 5-2. OFI upped the ante, dropping to 7-6 with a block from Vaiopoulos, but brilliant placement from Stivachtis pushed Kifisia up to 8-6. The guests took advantage of the inactivity of the “Blue-Whites” and were able to turn the game around and take a 9:8 lead.
Kostas Christofidelis’ players woke up after the time-out and retook the lead at 11-9 with a string of points. The set continued to thrill fans with both teams putting on a beautiful spectacle in Zirineo. OFI vs Jarvis returned to a 15-15 draw. From then on, the two teams took turns leading 21:21. Crucial to the outcome of the set was the substitution of Kostas Christofidelis, who put young Dravopoulos on serve in place of Okosanovic. Dravopoulos spoiled the Cretan reception and Kifisia achieved a double bowl set 24-22. OFI stayed alive with Ambrao, Kifisia closing the set 25-23 with an attack from her Serbian diagonal.
Mentally at its peak, Kifisia started the third set impressively and with a “gun” the block took a 4:1 lead. In fact, the “Blue-Whites” increased the lead to +4, 6:2 in the best phase of the game with a block-out won by Okosanovic. In fact, Kifisia took a serious 8-3 lead with Maikon’s attack. The visitors “turned up the gears” and with Khira on serve and a strong block, they lost 8-6.
Chevers brought Kifissia out of the difficult rotation and then errors from Jarvis and Shikuku brought it back up to +5 (11-6). The hosts “didn’t look back” and, after a block by Philippakopoulos and a counterattack by Chevers, made it 16:8 and finally finished the set 25:16 with an attack by Chevers.

Pegasus fought the 3rd set to get into the match but to no avail as he ran out of power after the 19th point. Polichni’s team was pressed in reception and limited to very low percentages in attack. Significantly, Mavrovouniotis was top scorer with 8 points.
