Women’s Volleyball League: PAOK, Panathinaikos, Olympiacos and AEK continued with wins

The 4th match day of Women’s Volley League took place without surprise when Panathinaikos defeated AO Thiras 3-0 in what was theoretically the most ambiguous match. Easy three points for PAOK, Olympiakos, AEK and Thetis.

With sovereignty in serve, block and attack, Panathinaikos won 3-0 sets in the closed Agios Thomas AO Thiras. The “Greens” completely controlled the course of the game except for the first set, when they fell 4:8 behind.

Characteristically, Panathinaikos took an 8-0 lead in the second set and conquered 25-11, while starting the third set at +6 (8-2) to make the 3-0 set 25-18.

Athina Papafotiou distributed the ball in attack, with the trio of Hatziefstratiadou, Anthoulis and Grotous holding 10 points each. No athlete had double-digit points for Santorini, Langeger stopped at 6.

Before the start of the match, Panathinaikos forward Martha Anthoulis was recognized for her promotion as KYANA MVP of Matchday 2. The award was presented by Agi Babouli, who made history with the Panathinaikos jersey and as a member of the technical staff.

PAOK is unstoppable

PAOK celebrated their fourth win in as many games. which easily passed “Antonis Fotsis”. Dikephalos comfortably dominated with all his offensive weapons on a very good day (16/28 Kroll, 7/11 Strandzali and 8/16 Cefry).

In the first set, 9-11 became 9-15 with the gap growing (12-20) and 0-1 coming in comfortably. In the second set, Ilysiakos quickly made it 6-3 with a good block but PAOK responded just as quickly 6-7 with both teams close at 12-14 which became 12-19 when Strandzalis scored 0- 2 hit.

Same scenario in the third set, 7-9 became 7-12 and the difference fell to 3 (16-19), with PAOK immediately responding again (16-23) to make the final 0-3.

Easy afternoon for Olympiakos in Aegaleo

The passage of Olympiakos from the Aegaleos headquarters was successful, the 3-0 set standing after 76 minutes. With the trio of Salas, Winters and Koumboura scoring 47 of the game’s 75 points, Olympiacos achieved their third win in four league games.

With the exception of the beginning of the second and third sets, when Aegaleo had a small lead, with pressure off the serve and a well placed block, the ‘Red-Whites’ had no trouble taking the away three in a 3-0 set.

Victory for AEK who await developments on the bench

Third win in a row for AEK was ZAON on their fourth loss in as many games.

The hosts played with the well-known absences (Mikroudakis, Kakuratou) and Le Tou as the only foreigner, while Union had Haris Skoutelakos on the bench after ending their collaboration with Kostas Arseniadis.

ZAON in the first two sets he was competitive to a point, in the second he managed to lead 10-7 and managed to get closer to 17-18 from 11-18 (single result 1-11 AEK), however the quality and Union experience allowed her to cruise comfortably to victory.

Hayden, Leitham and Papageorgiou led Thetida to three points

Back on the winning track for Thetidas, who ended the two-lost streak and forced Lamia to lose for the third straight game.

In essence, the game was the opener with Lamia in control until 13-17 (after leading 3-8, 8-14) while the Voula team equalized thanks to Leatham’s serve (17-17). There, Lamia escaped again 17-20, but Leatham’s serves made it 20-20 again, with the home side winning the set 8-1.

From then on, Lamia couldn’t resist and the 3-0 came easily.
