Olympiacos – Komarno 3:0: Idle qualification for the Red-Whites in the round of 16 of the Challenge Cup

Without having to raise the stakes, Olympiakos beat Komarno 3-0 and qualified for the “16” of the Challenge Cup.

Olympiacos confirmed their given competitive superiority in the second game, beating Komarno 3–0 and qualifying for the round of 16 of the Challenge Cup.

The red and white needed two sets and won them with concise processes and pluralism in attack despite Giuliani’s many changes to victory. First scorer for Olympiakos was Stern with 14 points.


In the next phase, Olympiacos meets the winner of the game Burgas (Bulgaria) – Lausanne (Switzerland).

The match: With two blockouts by Koumendakis, Olympiacos led by four points (6-2, 7-3), with Hidalgo nailing 8-4. Pagenk’s freshman year saw him walk away at +5 (10-5) while Hidalgo increased the difference to +6 (12-6).

With an ace from the Cuban winger, the “Red-Whites” reached +8 (14-6), while the same player “scored” again, for +7 (17-7). Olympiacos continued their dominance, reaching +12 (23-11) with an ace from Stern, while Hidalgo declared himself “present” again, going 24-11 to finish the first set 25-12.

Giuliani’s team went into the second set strong, building a three-point difference 11-8, but Komarno with a partial 7-1 went 15-12. Olympiacos turned things up and turned the facts around to go 25-21 to 2-0.

In the third set, Alberto Giuliani made several changes, giving the starters a breather. Nevertheless, the image of his team was still excellent, the Red-Whites achieved the 3-0 set with 25:21.
