Men’s Volleyball League: Finikas won a 3-0 set from OFI, conceding their difference from the top

Foinikas Syros broke out, winning a 3-0 set from OFI in Crete and collecting his difference at the top of the men’s volleyball league.

Starring Djuric, Fromm and Michalovic as protagonists, Phoenix defeated ONEX OFI in Crete by a 3-0 set to return to victory in the Volley League Championship. Dimitris Kazazis’ team with the three points to his credit caught Kifisia in 4th place with 11 points, -4 from the top. The game was attended by Deputy Sports Minister Lefteris Avgenakis.

The Syrians were determined not to lose and they showed it from the first point and although the Cretans fought back in the first set they led 22-20 but Phoenix with Djuric’s block went for a 5-0 Run and answered 1 -0 set.

With Michalovic in attack and Djuric on the block making the points easy, Phoenix held a narrow 7-6, 9-7, 13-8 lead after a 4-0 run on Klinkenberg’s serve. With Vaiopoulos at the service, OFH responded with a 4-0 run to 12:13. Michalovic and Fromm gave Phoenix solutions for 13-16. Foinikas’ errors and Shikokus’ impressive presence at the net with a 4-0 streak put OFI in the game and even gave him a 21-19 and 22-20 lead.

The match caught fire in the net and Jarvic emerged as a deadly player for OFH. as in two consecutive phases, he fell on the visitors’ block to make it 22-22. Phoenix ONEX’s streak continued with Michalovic while Djuric bid farewell by winning the set by two blocks over Khira and Shikoku. With a 5:0 run, Finikas ONEX turned the set around and made it 1:0 with 25:22.

From the 2nd set Phoenix ONEX reduced his mistakes, Fromm and Klinkenberg went up aggressively and escaped with a 4:0 run with 12:7. The +5 was maintained for most of the set and the difference widened when Michalovic caught an ace and hit serve to get OFI’s reception at 23-15. Jarvic’s lost serve ended the set 25-17 for the 2-0 set.

In the 3rd set, OFI made one last attempt to turn the match around but fought it in the face. Shikuku and Jarvis put OFI ahead 10-6 and 13-10. Fromm took on Phoenix by scoring 3 straight points and paired with Djuric’s attack for a 4-0 run for a 14-14 draw. It was a point-by-point battle and a rally to the 20th point. Ambrao made it 20-19. Michalovic equalized 20-20 while Phoenix ONEX hit 23-20 with two blocks from Djuric, Fromm and Michalovic’s ace, giving them the absolute advantage. A Jerezuelo block on Jarvic closed the set 25-21 and Phoenix ONEX won in a 3-0 set.

Big double for Pegasus against Aristotle

Pegasos Polichnis won the big derby of the newcomers against Aristotelis Skydras in the gymnasium of Kalyvia with 3:2 sets and celebrated the second victory in the championship and the first away win in the volley league championship.

With Bareto Pena as the protagonist, Mavrovoniotis holding the reception, Armenakis covering the net and Milis providing solutions in the tiebreak, Pegasos took the two points.

Aristotelis Skydras went into the match deaf, lost a set 2-0 and executed a sustained counterattack that sent the game to a tiebreak. There he got off to a bad start, finding himself at the bottom of the standings and retaining the precious point that earned him the last place in the general standings right away with OFI, just -2 points ahead of Pegasos and Athlos Orestiadas who have 5. From Aristotle, the leaders were Sandoval and Flores.

Volleyball players of Kazan “Zenith” won the Russian Super Cup for the 11th time

Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).

Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.

For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

Kazan “Zenit” reached the final of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup

Kazan “Zenit” defeated “Zenith” from St. Petersburg in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:17, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12) in favor of the Kazan team.

In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.

The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.

Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Dynamo Moscow in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:13, 30:28).

In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Thursday, St. Petersburg and Kazan Zenit will meet.

The final match will take place on December 26.
