Olympiacos beat Brno 3-0 in Gina Lambrousi’s comeback and took an important step towards qualifying for the quarter-finals of the CEV Cup.

Impressively, Olympiacos beat Kralovo Brno 3-0 and need two sets to reach the quarter-finals next week in the Czech Republic.

The red-white team, given the plight of PAOK in the preliminary round (they lost 2-0 in Thessaloniki, won the tiebreak, but were eliminated with a 3-1 defeat in Brno), competed from the first to the second round fully concentrated at the last point and they didn’t give the Czechs any space.

Olympiakos put a lot of pressure on the Brno reception, with 5 lost serves in 74 attempts and 10 aces!

One of the highlights of the game was the return of Gina Lambrousi when the international, after 2.5 years (where she played in France with Mulhouse and in Romania with Targoviste) wore the red and white jersey in an official match.

The only point in the game where Brno showed some sort of reaction was at the start of the third set when 7-1 became 8-6, but Miceli’s athletes quickly widened the gap (11-9 turned 16-9) with Militsa Koumboura is the top scorer with 18 points (17/31 ff., 1 ace).

The rematch will take place on Wednesday, January 18th. in Brno, with Olympiakos needing two sets to qualify.
