Orion – Panathinaikos 1:3: Qualifying lead for the Greens in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup
Panathinaikos lost the first set but continued to pick up pace, defeating Orion 3-1 and two sets away from qualifying for the Challenge Cup semi-finals.
Panathinaikos became the clear favorites to reach the semi-finals of the Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup after beating Orion 3-1 in the Netherlands.
Clover lost the first set but then recovered and managed to end the excitement and become the all-time favorite to qualify.
How he qualifies: All is now clear for Panathinaikos as the Greens want two sets to seal qualification in the second leg, which takes place in Marousi on 25 January. Orion only needs a 3-0 or 3-1 win to qualify for the gold set.
The match: In the first set, Panathinaikos overtook from the middle of the set and maintained a two-point difference until 20:20 when the home team equalized. The two teams went point-to-point up to 25-25 when Orion with back-to-back points finished the set (27-25).
The next two sentences showed a similar picture. Panathinaikos was able to quickly evade the goal and, despite counter attempts by the Dutch, held the turn to lead the set 2:1 (25:23, 25:21).
In the fourth set we had a big fight. Orion led by three (9-6) but the greens countered to take a 9-5, 16-14 lead.
The Dutch reacted and were able to overtake with a service weapon at 20:19. However, Panathinaikos had not spoken his last word. They caused another upset with a partial 6-2 to finish the set 25-22.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

Volleyball players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” beat “Nova” and won their fifth victory in a row in the Super League
St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–2 (25:17, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25, 15:13). Zenit extended its winning streak in the Super League to five matches.
In other matches of the day, Zenit Kazan beat Krasnoyarsk Yenisey at home – 3-1 (25:18, 25:20, 25:27, 25:20), the Dynamo-LO club (Sosnovy Bor) defeated Kemerovo Kuzbass at home – 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:20).
The leader in the table is Zenit Kazan (16 wins, 45 points), Zenit from St. Petersburg (14 wins, 43 points) is second.
