AEK – Olympiacos 3-2: The victory in Union after a terrible game

AEK took a 2-0 lead, Olympiacos sent the match into a tiebreak and there Union won 3-2 sets after an exciting match.

At AEK, the derby with Olympiakos ended after an exciting game that was decided in detail. The Union had a clearer head in the final and won with 3:2 sets.

The red-white team started the first set impressively, leading 4-9, but AEK gnawed at the difference (7-9, 9-11, 11-12). Not for long, however, as Olympiacos again got away 13-17 and held a solid lead until 18-22. Iota’s missed serve brought AEK’s first run (21-22) which led to a 1-0 lead through a block from Kulikova (23-23) and when the score was 26-26 a mistake from Winters and an attack from Nizetich.

That development allowed AEK to start a 4-0 run early in the second set, with Olympiacos temporarily recovering to lead 9-10, but 11-12 turned into 17-13 with back-to-back counterattacks to move relatively comfortably to get to 2-0.

The third set started with many reversals (0-3, 7-5) but 10-10 became 11-16 and 12-20 with Olympiakos fully dominating and reducing slightly while something similar happened in the fourth set. At first there were many changes in the score, Olympiakos turned 16:15 into 16:19 and with partial results of 2:10 to equalize 2:2.

There, the Red-Whites converted from 7-8 to 7-10, but AEK immediately came close (9-10) and drew 11-11 with Calderon to follow up a real thrill that ended with Silva’s 19-17 attack .

Big double for Mars

Aris celebrated his first win in 2 months, leaving Voula with 21 points from blocks with two valuable points.

This was Thetida’s first loss in a four-game winning streak, but they stayed a safe distance from 6th in the table.

Except for the first set where Aris easily prevailed, the match was a point-by-point battle where Thessaloniki team went 0-2 and 12-16 in the 3rd set but didn’t finish the match.

Thetis managed the first reversal to 1-2 to win the next after a great fight in detail and lead 8-6 in the tiebreak. Aris equalized and the 11-10 became 11-14 (two points from a block) to end the game with an attack from Tsoumba.
