Finikas took the lead in the League Cup final after beating Olympiakos 3-1

Foinikas Syrou beat Olympiakos 3-1 in the first semi-final of the two teams for the League Cup and took the lead in qualifying for the final ahead of Saturday’s second leg.

Phoenix ONEX beat Olympiakos in the first semi-final of the two teams for the Nikos Samaras League Cup with a 3-1 set (25:22, 20:25, 25:21, 25:22) and took the lead in qualifying for the final before their rematch on Saturday, to be played at the “Melina Merkouri”.

The hosts were better in the first set despite Jerezuelo’s absence, while Olympiakos improved in the second set. In the third, however, with a sustained counterattack, despite falling behind on points, he made it 2-1 and finally won the fourth set to win 3-1.

This is Foinikas ONEX’s first victory over Olympiakos in exactly one year, the first in Syros in two years and the first “clean” victory over the Red-Whites in Syros since April 23, 2019.

The Syrians’ lead was Fromm, Michalovics, Galiotos, without letting the others fall behind, but Fromm showed his best performance at Phoenix ONEX and even finished the game with a personal point at the expense of his old team.

Despite losing 1-0 sets, Olympiacos found their rhythm in the 2nd set and equalized to make it 1-1. He also got off to a great start in the third set, leading 16-12. There he passed out. He went on a 6-0 run on a serve from Fromm (he hit 2 aces) and found himself chasing the result. With Indalgo, Koumendakis on a mediocre day, Olympiacos lost quality in reception and lost crucial stages on counterattacks.

One of them counterattacked Koumendakis at 22:21 in the 4th set, where he had a chance to equalize but nailed (23:21). After some good periods, Michalovic and Fromm closed the score and the game amidst the apotheosis of the Syrians, who saw their side could clinch a title again this season.
