Tragic end for Famagusta school volleyball team, at least 16 dead
Unending tragedy in Turkey where 16 students and coaches of a school volleyball team from Famagusta were found dead in the ruins of a hotel in Antiyaman area.
A tragedy that has become incomprehensible since the devastating earthquake in Turkey, with a dramatic increase in the number of victims and shocking new information from the neighboring country.
A school volleyball team that was in the Antiyaman region to play in a school tournament on the day of the deadly earthquake was trapped in the rubble of the Isias Hotel where they were staying.
According to a statement from the authorities, 16 students and coaches from the team were found dead in the ruins, among the 39 people who were staying in the hotel that collapsed in the earthquake.
“Our pain is great, words are not enough, our condolences”, said the school’s Facebook page, which also previously posted photos from the mission.
The funeral for some of the children also took place today, while according to Turkish media, the Famagusta Bar Association is claiming the hotel’s responsibility.
