Women’s Volleyball Cup: AO Thiras eliminated Olympiacos, in the Final Four AEK, PAOK and Panathinaikos
AO Thiras scored a big win against Olympiakos in a 3-1 set and eliminated them from the Final Four where AEK, PAOK and Panathinaikos qualified.
Last year’s finalists AO Thiras defeated Olympiakos 3-1 to seal their ticket to the Final 4 of the Women’s Cup.
This is the 5th Final 4 in the history of AO Thiras, which also counts three consecutive appearances in the final of the Cup (2019, 2021, 2022), where the multiple winner of the institution Olympiakos (9 wins) did not manage to be there Finale for the second time in a row 4.
AOTH lost in the first set 14-17 and Olympiakos countered, but there Vesovics’ triple substitution (Tsochatzis, Ziogas and Fakis on serve) turned things on their head. Faki with two aces and an error from Olympiakos took the result to 18-17 for AOTH to reach +2 (21-19) and although the Red-White team equalized 21-21, the home side managed with a new 4- 0-run it 1-0.
Santorini led 14-12 in the second set, but there Olympiacos responded, taking a 1-6, 15-18 lead with singles results to move comfortably to 1-1.
In the third set AOTH was impressive, getting away early with an 8-4 to reach 16-9, with Miceli successively passing Tsitsigiannis, Christodoulou and Olympiacos to turn 18-12 into 18-17.
In the next stage, Tsitsigianni made incredible defense but nobody closed their gap for an easy spot to come up with Sala’s poor shot and level it at 20-17. Olympiacos couldn’t make up the difference and Langerer finished the set.
The home team got off to a good start and was able to manage their lead perfectly in the fourth set with a fast 8-3 and excellent reception and clinched victory.

PAOK is in its first Final Four
PAOK became the first team to secure qualification for the Final 4 of the Women’s Cup when they prevailed 3-0 in Markopoulou.
Four days after their dramatic victory on the same field for Volley League Matchday 16, the Double Kefalos team with top-ranked Cafrei, Strandzali won this time comfortably and will compete in the first Final-4 of their history.
In the first two sets, PAOK had big early differences while AOM could only be close in the third until 13-16 which became 15-21 and that’s where it all ended.
Markopoulos – PAOK 0-3

Return for AEK
AEK celebrate their return to the Final-4 after beating Thetida 3-1 in Voula in the quarter-finals of the Greek Women’s Cup.
From Serres, Union had to go into the final stages of the cup again in 2019, with Thetida not being able to get the ticket for the second Final-4 in a row despite the efforts.
Thetida was superior on serve (10-3 aces) and block (13-9) but fell behind in attack with 28% efficiency (31/112 finished), in contrast to the AEK athletes who finished 45% with 59/ 131 had ended attacks.
In the first set, Thetidas’ 7-3 became 7-7, with the two teams separating 16-16. With two attacks from Nizetich and one from Silva, AEK took a three-point lead (16-19) and Calderon blocked 18-25 to make it 0-1.
In the second set Thetida took an early lead, the difference reached +10 (16-6) and despite AEK’s attempts to narrow it, Voula’s team equalized 25-20 in a 1-1 set.
In the third set, 10-10 became 10-14 and then 15-20 with an attack from Silva while her compatriot Calderon went 17-25.
Thetida came in determined to send the game into the tie break, starting the fourth set better and leading 8-4. With pressure on the serve and the right decisions in attack, AEK managed to equalize at 11:11 and take control of the set. Silva scored 20:24, Kulikova ended the match with a block (20:25).
Thetis Voulas – AEK 1-3

Panathinaikos will defend his title
Panathinaikos will have a chance to defend last year’s title which qualified for the Final-4 of the Greek Women’s Cup.
The Greens defeated Aris 3-1 in the quarter-final match at the Mikras Hallenstadion and will go into the draw along with AEK, PAOK and AO Thiras to determine the semi-final pairings.
Aris caused the surprise in the first set, with Panathinaikos leading consistently until 17:21, but Aris reacted and with Tsoumba as the protagonist, he won by 25:23.
From the second set, Yannis Kalmazidis’ gymnasts increased their performance, taking a difference in points from the start and giving Aris no claim to more than the match.
At the end of the match, Aris protested by two stages in the fourth set. The first was at 21-23 with the attack from Anthoulis, which they considered eliminated, and the second at 22-24 due to incorrect positions of the Panathinaikos athletes, which were not given.
