Olympiacos – Panathinaikos 3-2: Red-White derby after a great game
Olympiacos led 2-0, Panathinaikos sent the match into a tiebreak, but the Red-Whites, who won the final 3-2 sets, smiled.
We saw another great match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos for men’s volleyball league where Red-White won 3-2 sets.
Olympiacos led 2-0, the Greens managed to send the game into the tie-break, but there Giuliani’s players took back the reins of the game and claimed victory.
All of this just days after her victory in the Amarousiou match that qualified her for the Challenge Cup finals.
The match: Olympiacos came into the game stronger and managed to build a lead of up to five points (14-9).
From there, Panathinaikos managed to weaponize Hernandez’s serve, knocking over the set and taking a 6-0 run to take a 16-15 lead. A derby followed, in which the lead alternated until the end.
Hidalgo with an ace and Koumendakis with an attack put Olympiakos ahead (23-22). The first served for 23-23. Nikos Zoupanis gave the red-whites the set bowl with an attack and then Koumentakis closed the set in a phase where the video check was necessary.
At first the referees gave it an off, but the video showed a touch on Frangos’ hand, which closed the set for the red-whites.
In the second set, Panathinaikos took a 3-6 lead, but Olympiacos immediately responded with an equalizer. The two teams were tied for the remainder of the set.
This time the greens arrived first in a bowl set, but the ones who smiled were the red-whites. When the score was 24:24, Andreopoulos stopped the phase for a video check that required four balls.
The video didn’t do him justice and the point went to Olympiakos. Then Nikos Zoupanis got the ace with a terrible serve to finish the set 26-24.
Unlike the previous two sets, in the third we only had one protagonist. Panathinaikos managed to evade goal early and clear the set with summary proceedings at 25-16 to reduce to 2-1.
The picture was similar until halfway through the second set. Panathinaikos was consistently in front until Olympiacos managed to equal the set 17-17.
From there, however, the greens ran 8-2 with base and his serves leading, resulting in Panathinaikos making it 2-2 at 19-25 and the match going into a tiebreak.
There the two teams stayed close to 6:6. From there, using his serve as a weapon, Olympiacos managed to build a difference and claim the win by 3-2 sets.

Same picture in the 2nd movement. where PAOK was in the driver’s seat early with a two-point lead over Jorna (8-6). As fate would have it, the forthcoming derbies of Phoenix vs PAOK in Thessaloniki but with Milos in Syros will have the character of… a final for 4th place in the regular season final standings.
The libero Dimitris Konstantinidis showed a top performance, who supported the entire reception and helped his team to a perfect development. OFI was nervous, couldn’t cope with the pressure in reception and Giumakas was the only one with double digit points.
In the first points of recognition, the two teams went hand in hand, with Phoenix leading by a point to go 5-5. Two attacks from Klinkenberg and Fromm made it 7-5, but OFI, leading Giumaka, equalized to 10-10. At 15:14, Fromm entered serve position and secured a four-point “air” for Foinikas after taking two aces and making it difficult for the opposing defense to make it 18:14, and then Demirci’s out made it 19:14. With both teams losing serves, the rhythm was halted, but the Phoenix captain came and with two attacks finished the set 25-21.
Jerezuelo and Klinkenberg made it 5-1 at the beginning of the second set, while Fromm continued the phases for Phoenix with an impressive defense. The visitors pushed to close the gap, which Blombergs managed to do to 6-4, but Phoenix had pace and options in attack while defense also gave them chances for counterattacks. Once again Klinkenberg led the team 15-9 while beating Charalambidis 20-12 with impressive times. Although OFI pressed again to make it 23-20 with Giumaka on serve, Michalovic “cleaned” the set at 25-20.
The work was similar in the third and final set, where Phoinikas got into the driver’s seat after 5-5, even forcing OFI to many errors both on serve and near the net. The 10-9 with Vaiopoulos turned into a 16-10, with Papalexiou picking up vital points as the lead widened as the set progressed. 18-12 was made by Klinkenberg’s whistle, Michalovic then took three straight points for 23-17 and the set ended with Manolaki’s attack and Blumbergs’ out-serve for 25-19.

With a steady counterattack, crowd support and Dimitris Rizopoulos’ medical performances in the tie-break, Athlos defeated Orestiada AOP despite losing 2-0 sets. Kifissia by 3-2 sets and picked up two gold points trying to stay in the volley league. At the same time, he repeated the victory he had obtained in Zirinio, even with the same number of points.
It’s a real feat considering Kifisia emerged from defeating Foinikas ONEX 3-0 and still had hopes for 4th place, but that was significantly diminished as they moved up from 5th overall at Foinikas ONEX remained at -3.
The fight had two faces. The first where Kifisia completely dominates the first two sets with high percentages in receiving and attacking. Kifisia also led 8-7 in the 3rd set but everything changed from there. Athlos, freed on serve, put pressure on Kostas Christofidelis’ team with quick attacks and top scorer Albo equalized 2-2 with a long counterattack.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.
