Greek Men’s Volleyball Cup: Olympiacos won the derby with Foinikas, Panathinaikos, PAOK and Milonas completing the Final Four
Olympiacos overcame the resistance of Foinikas and reached the semi-finals of the Greek Cup in men’s volleyball. Along with him, Panathinaikos, PAOK and Milonas progressed with 3-0 victories.
After a battle that lasted 2.5 hours, Olympiacos left Syros with the qualification. This is the 22nd time that the red-whites are competing in the final 4 or final 8 of the cup and let last year’s finalists out of the final phase Phoenix ONEX.
Olympiacos started the game impressively and with one hand his serve quickly reached +4 (2-6) but failed to hold the difference as Phoinikas immediately responded 5-6, with the Syrians back-to-back counterattacking from 6-8 to 10-8 made . From that point a terrible battle began, with the home side consistently leading (13-11, 15-12) and Olympiacos equalizing (18-18) and missing an opportunity to take a 20-20 lead (Juric block against Hidalgo). . At 22:22, two mistakes by Red-White Foinikas with Papalexiou and a block for Koumendakis resulted in an equal number of bowls for Foinikas at 25:23.
In the second, a quick 3-0 from Phoenix turned into a 10-12 with an ace from Hidalgo, but the home team converted 11-13 to 16-14 with red-white errors to take it to 21-18. Pagenk switched Hidalgo to serve and left when the score was tied at 21-24 and Jerezuelo’s broken serve ended the set.
Despite being 1-1, Phoenix dominated early in the third set, escaping 11-6 to go 18-12. Olympiacos took advantage of the home team’s mistakes and reduced to 18-14 and 19-18, but Fromm’s ace made it 23-20. The home side didn’t finish the counterattack in the next phase, Stern took the switch and Travisa became Hidalgo as he served spoiled the Syrians’ reception with an ace to wrap up an impressive 0-5 series to make it 23-25 and 1-2 in sentences.
The thriller culminated in the fourth set, where the two teams fought a bitter point-to-point battle. At 11-13 it became 15-13 on Michalovic’s serve but Olympiacos answered 15-16. The Reds and Whites again came away by two points (20-22) and Sterns Out brought the game to a draw again (23-23). Fromm faded in the first bowl match (24:24), Foinikas missed three chances to prevail (24:25 Travitsa block against Roumeliotakis) and Koumentakis ended the match for good.

PAOK defends its title
Defending champions PAOK were the first semi-finalist in time as they prevailed in Zirineio Kifisia with 3-0 set. Dikefalos qualified for the 9th consecutive year in the final stages of the cup (it has 4 conquests) and caused a terrible upset in the 2nd set, losing 19-13.
PAOK started the 1st set strong and caused problems with her serve in Kifissia. In fact, he “built” an early 5-1 difference with a block three against Chevers and an ace from Van De Dries. In the 2nd set, PAOK took an early lead 5-3, with Kifisia “chasing” them and passing them 9-8 with a successful blockout by Chevers. The quality of serve dropped for the two teams, who tied for 11-11 with back-to-back errors. Kifissia with a block from Rikandro against Van De Dries took the lead midway down Route 13-11. In fact, the home team took back-to-back points with Maikon on serve and Okosanovic’s counter-attack made it 17-12. Kifissia set the difference to 19-13 with the “gas pressed” like a block from Spiliotis “shot down”. The doubleheader countered and reduced to 21-19 with blocks from Skrendau and Rapti and an out attack from Okosanovic.
Chevers got the Athens side out of a difficult rotation, Okosanovic’s ace made it 23-19, and PAOK came back to level the game at 23-23 with Van De Dries at serve. The Belgian with an out serve gave Kifissia a set bowl 24-23, but Ricardo’s counter went out 24-24. Kifissia reached three more bowl sets, with PAOK staying alive by finding points from Van De Dries. Eventually, Rapti’s block gave the double-header a 28-27 bowl set, which the Greece international completed 29-27 by ‘piercing’ the Kifisio block.
The 3rd set began with several service errors by both teams and changes in the lead. Despite trailing 5-3, Kifisia overtook them 8-7 after a successful block from Papadopoulos and a mistake by the visitors. In the development of the set, Roussopoulos’ difficult defense had no answer as in the development phase Van De Dries’ counterattack gave PAOK a 10-9 lead.
The “battles” at the net continued, with Kifissia finding points from Okosanovic’s blocks, but also Maikon 13-12. PAOK took a 16-12 lead with a 4-0 series at a critical point in the set. Kifissia was not disappointed and equalized with enormous energy to 17:17 with an impressive block from Roussopoulos.
Then Rapti’s whistle took PAOK to 19-17, while Van De Dries scored to 22-18 a little later. Kifissia failed to return to win the set with PAOK winning 25-19 with a block from Skrendau.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

Lokomotiv volleyball players beat MSTU in a Russian championship match
Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Moscow MSTU in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
