Big win for Aris in tiebreak against Olympiakos in Women’s Volleyball League, PAOK idle
Aris achieved a very big win (3-2) against Olympiakos on the 18th matchday of Women’s Volleyball League and improved her chances to reach the play-offs. It took only 47 minutes to get rid of PAOK ZAON.
Aris celebrated a great win that boosted his chances of a place in the top eight and a place in the play-offs with a 3-2 victory against Olympiakos in Mikra.
This was the second tie-break Olympiacos had played in as many days as the inaugural CEV Cup quarter-finals in Romania was decided in five sets with Targoviste, with Lorenzo Micelli playing without the services of Milica Koumbura (s.) in the 2 in Romania).
In the first set, Aris turned the 7-6 into a 10-6 with Tani’s serve and although Olympiakos immediately reduced to 10-9, the Yellow-Blacks escaped again 14-9, without the guests being able to come back and the set at 25 -18 to close.
In the second set after 10-11, Aris again managed a clear difference (14-11, 18-14), which he maintained until 22-18. There, however, Iota’s serve and Tsoumba’s good block took the score to 22-23 to make it 25-25, where Tsoumba’s off and Betseva’s poor reception gave Olympiakos the set.
Aris started better again in the third set and took an 11-8 lead. Olympiacos took the change and went on a 0-8 run (consecutive blocks) with Salas in service to take an 8-16 lead and easily go to 18-25.
The fourth set was much more even as neither team could lead 18-18, which with Tani’s serves and Sala’s poor receptions made it 23-18, sending the match into a tiebreak.
Aris led 3-1 in the fifth and final set, but a 6-1 split gave Olympiacos a +3 (4-7) which they held until 7-10. There, Aris ran his own streak for 11-10, with Olympiakos passing 11-12. But this was the last point for the red-whites, because a lost serve from Winters, a counterattack from Tsoumba, a block from Betseva to Jenitsaridis and an ace from Tani led to the final score of 15:12.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.
