Olympiacos overtook Kifissia with 20 aces, Panathinaikos easily against Pegasos
Olympiacos beat Zirineio and injured Kifissia with his performances. Panathinaikos easily purged Pegasus with Kovar as the protagonist.
Using the serve as a weapon that brought in 20 aces, Olympiakos won a clear victory (1-3 sets) against the deserved Kifisia in Zirineio as part of the match on round 16 of the men’s volleyball league.
With two rounds to go before the end of the regular season, the Reds and Whites maintained a safe distance from PAOK and as everything shows, the derby between the two teams is likely to decide first place as well.
Of the 20 aces, 11 were hit by Hidalgo and 6 by Stern. Payenk scored two and Koumentakis scored one.
The first set of the match started with Kifisia and Olympiakos alternating in the lead. Okosanovic’s cannons from 9 meters injured the reception of the guests and with the Serb’s three aces, the blue-whites took the lead 8:3.
The Red-Whites upped their game, coming within breathing distance with two Payenk aces to 8-7, but Kifisia went again to +4, 12-8 with Maikon and Ricardo ending difficult periods.
Again the Piraeus team responded with an impressive block from Linardos and an out from Okosanovic to reduce the lead to 13-12. As the set progressed, Payenk’s block and Stern’s ace even gave Olympiakos a 15-14 lead.
The lead changes continued, Kifissia taking the lead again with 19-17 against Maikon and a smart placement from Roussopoulos, but again overtook Olympiacos with Stern on serve 23-22. However, Kifisia was the one who got a 24-23 bowl set with a block from Maikon and eventually won it with another block from Okosanoivc after an amazing 25-23 defense from Ricardo.
The visitors in the second set started better and led 6-4 with consecutive aces from Hidalgo, while a little later the difference reached 5 points 11-6 with Kifissia making mistakes in attack. The Red-Whites continued to have the upper hand, going 14-8 while both coaches received red cards for protests, resulting in a 15-9 score.
Olympiacos didn’t look back, hitting a double score of 24-12 on serve and block weapons and winning the set 25-15 by taking his fourth chance, with Stern winning a block-out.
Chiver’s layup and Stern’s layup gave Kifissia a 5-3 lead early in the 3rd set, with Olympiacos quickly leveling the game 7-7 with Payenk’s block and taking five Hidalgo aces for a 15-8 lead! Kifisia came out of the difficult rotation, then went down with Chevers at 21-17, but Olympiacos was unthreatened and a mistake by the hosts’ American winger took the set 25-18.
Strong “fights” at the net came in the 4th set with Olympiako leading 7-5 and Kifisia 9-9 against Okosanovic. Once again Hidalgo’s serve “hurts” the hosts, the “Red-Whites” take the lead again with 11:9, Okosanovic “replies with the same coin” to equalize 11:11. In the development of the set, the two teams kept the side out and reached together until 15:15. Then Kontostathis’ terrible defense and Chevers’ block and Payenk’s exit brought Kifisia to 17-15 and woke up Zirineio.
Olympiacos responded immediately with a 17-17 equalizer, while a little later they retook the reins 19-18 with a new ace from Hidalgo. The finale of the set was a thrill, with Kifissia taking a 22-21 lead with a block from Ricardo and reaching a set bowl 24-23 with a block won by Okosanovic. Olympiacos and Hidalgo split 24-24, his cross reaching a match bowl 25-24, Okosanovic kept Kifissia alive 25-25. Hidalgo gave Olympiakos a new match point by 26:25 and eventually the red and white team won by 27:25 after the Serbian diagonal was thrown away by Kifissia.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.
