PAOK – Panathinaikos 1-3: Protop somersaults and top by hand double for the greens
Panathinaikos, featuring a major protagonist, Thanasis Protopsaltis, defeated PAOK 3-1 to climb to the top of the men’s volleyball league.
The derby between PAOK and Panathinaikos at PAOK Sports Arena was greened after the players were defeated by Andreopoulos 3-1 sets.
A big protagonist for the Greens was Thanasis Protopsaltis. The Greek winger gave everything and led his team to victory.
On the other hand, PAOK played without Koumentakis, who had an injury problem when Barnes joined the foreign squad in place of Brown.
With this three-pointer, Panathinaikos overtook PAOK in the 2nd stage standings and climbed to the top of the men’s volleyball league.
The game: Panathinaikos started the game with Barnes on the spot. As a result, PAOK’s reception was ruined and Andreopoulos’ players built up a huge difference from the start, leading 1-7.
The picture of the game remained unchanged until the middle of the set where the greens went by a double score (8-16). From there we saw another set. PAOK with Petreas and Kouklinski doing a poor job in service spoiled the reception and the hosts were able to reduce to two points (19-21).
Kalmazidis players kept pushing and equalized the point difference (23-24), but in the end the set ended with Panathinaikos 23-25.
In the second set both teams were close to goal until the score was 9-10. However, from then Panathinaikos completely dominated, spoiling PAOK’s reception and with greater efficiency in attack with 25:16 easily made the 2-0 set.
With a psychology high, Panathinaikos led 3-7 early in the third set, but PAOK responded. Kalmazidis’ high risk players in service were able to quickly overtake at 8-7 and then build a lead that they defended to the end to reduce to 2-1 sets at 25-21.
The fourth movement developed into a thriller. Panathinaikos seemed to have the situation under control and led 14-18. At this point, Barnes’ performances spoiled the reception of the greens and with back-to-back blocks, PAOK ran 5-0 to pass 19-18.
From that point on we had a derby where PAOK made the set of bowls after Rangel’s net, but then the best player of the game spoke. Thanasis Protopsaltis first made it to 24-24, deftly taking the block out in a terribly difficult attack, then essentially made a single block to Udris and finished the set with another block-out.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

In the Women’s Super League, Minsk in the away match of the 17th round defeated the Zarechye-Odintsovo team with a score of 3-2 (15:25, 22:25, 25:21, 25:15, 15:7).

Volleyball players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” beat “Nova” and won their fifth victory in a row in the Super League
St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–2 (25:17, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25, 15:13). Zenit extended its winning streak in the Super League to five matches.
In other matches of the day, Zenit Kazan beat Krasnoyarsk Yenisey at home – 3-1 (25:18, 25:20, 25:27, 25:20), the Dynamo-LO club (Sosnovy Bor) defeated Kemerovo Kuzbass at home – 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:20).
The leader in the table is Zenit Kazan (16 wins, 45 points), Zenit from St. Petersburg (14 wins, 43 points) is second.
