Women’s Volleyball League: AEK and Panathinaikos continued with wins

AEK and Panathinaikos had an easy afternoon, winning 3-0 sets against Ilysiakos and Aegaleos respectively for the Women’s Volleyball League.

AEK continued their winning streak in Game 18, which won in New Philadelphia with a 3-0 set by Elysiakos, heading into the Women’s Cup Final-4.

Union managed to take three points after 70 minutes of play with 14 blocks, with Kalandatze and Kulikova each having 4. Ilysiakos fought the game but made 21 errors (13 from serve) that didn’t give him a chance to get more than the showdown .

The first two sets ended easily in AEK at 25-15 and while everything showed that he would easily win the third set as he led 8-2 16-9, Ilysiakos managed to reduce to 21-20. The Union athletes were able to defend their lead with 25:22 and the final 3:0 set in their favour.

Victory for Panathinaikos on the return of Roga and Medits

Panathinaikos defeated Aegaleos 3-0 in a closed Agios Thomas without impressing with a performance and now has their sights set on the Women’s Cup Final-4 in Arta.

Aegaleo performed well, taking advantage of Panathinaikos’ 26 errors in several places, but in the final of the first and third sets, the cloverleaf athletes showed their experience and achieved the final result.

Sofia Medits also returned to the Greens as the issue that had arisen with her husband’s residence permit in Greece was resolved. Serva Central started on the starting lineup with 8 points, and Penny Roga competed throughout the game.

Angeliki Antoniadis’ team almost won the first set as they were in the lead throughout. Panathinaikos equalized Anae 23-23, Anthoulis then equalized 26-24 and 1-0. In the second set, Panathinaikos took the lead from the start and easily won it 25:19.

In the third set, the Greens again hunted for goals until 15:17. With Metaxas serving, Panathinaikos took the lead 18-17 and despite Dekani’s ace putting Aegaleo back in front (18-19), the hosts made it up to 23-19 with a 4-0 run. An attack by Anthoulis made the final 25-23.

AO Thiras won the derby

In a match full of twists and turns, AO Thiras managed to break the resistance of AO Markopoulos Revoil and won after a real fight that lasted 147 minutes.

AOTH made two big comebacks in sets 1 and 5, with the visitors equalizing from 2-0 to 2-2 but unable to hold a 5-10 lead in set 5.

The first big surprise came in the first set when AOM took an ace from Evangeliou to 22:24 at 20:22, but a Ketsman attack, a block and a Mercada attack took it to 25:24, with Thira won the set at 28 – 26 with a block from Lageger, Kioutsiuki.

In the second set, the guests’ 2:5 became 10:5 thanks to Mercado’s serves and AOTH with individual scores of 13:1 took the lead with 15:6 and easily increased to 2:0.

However, Markopoulos equalized just as easily to make it 2-2, because in the 3rd and 4th sets he had 10 blocks out of a total of 13 to reach the tie-break.

The guests got away early with 2-5 and converted from 5-7 to 5-10, even with an unused counterattack. Bozis with an ace reduced it to 8-10 and a block from Lageger made it 10-11 while AOM reached 11-13 but then accepted a 3-0 run for the AOTH Match Bowl. Mercado lost serve, Markopoulos got his own match point with Leatham tucking away (15-15) and at 18-18, Leatham’s advantage on serve and against Mercado gave the Santorini team the win.
