Women’s Volleyball Cup: All set for the first serve of the semifinals
The heart of women’s volleyball will beat in Arta on the two days of March 10-11, where the Final Four of the Cup will be held, AO Thiras – Panathinaikos and AEK – PAOK pairs.
The first women’s volleyball title of the year will be decided in Arta. On the two days from March 10th to 11th, the Final Four of the Cup with the four teams ready to offer a rich spectacle.
The first timed semi-final will see last year’s final pair clash, with AO Thiras taking on trophy holder Panathinaikos.
The quintessential home side AO Thiras, making their 5th appearance in Final 4, are claiming their fourth consecutive appearance in the Finals after making a splash in the quarterfinals against (multi-champion) Olympiakos.
For its part, Panathinaikos wants to defend the title it won last year in Heraklion, while this year it defeated AO Thiras in both matches of Volley League.
However, the last time the two teams faced each other in a cup semi-final (2021) the winner was AO Thiras as they won the indoor game of Agios Thomas 3-2.
For the second time in a row, AEK and PAOK meet in the cup, but this time the winner gets the ticket to the final.
At last year’s tournament, the two Dikefali faced off in the round of 16, with AEK winning 3-2 after a long battle.
Union in the 4th Final 4 in their history (and for the first time since 2019) aiming to reach the final for the 4th time (they lost the previous three) and are the team that broke this year’s streak of unbeaten Thessaloniki with a win 3-0 in the derby of matchday 11.
PAOK is looking for its second trophy in its first Final 4 (it had also qualified in 2020 when the event was postponed due to the pandemic).
PAOK and AEK are the teams that are in the top two places in Volley League standings after 20 games, with the black-white having 50 points and the yellow-black having 48 points, and in the 22nd game there is a derby between them , which will largely decide the first in the regular season.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

Lokomotiv volleyball players beat MSTU in a Russian championship match
Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Moscow MSTU in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in Moscow ended with a score of 3–2 (25:21, 20:25, 25:23, 23:25, 15:10) in favor of the guests.
Lokomotiv scored 44 points and ranks second in the Super League standings, MSTU (6 points) is 16th.
In other matches of the day, the Gazprom-Ugra club beat Dynamo-Ural from Ufa at home (3–0, 26:24, 28:26, 25:21), Nizhny Novgorod Gorky lost away to Orenburg (0–3, 28:30, 11:25, 25:27), Belogorye took victory over Yaroslavich in Tula (3–0, 25:17, 25:15, 25:22).
In the Women’s Super League, Minsk in the away match of the 17th round defeated the Zarechye-Odintsovo team with a score of 3-2 (15:25, 22:25, 25:21, 25:15, 15:7).

Volleyball players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” beat “Nova” and won their fifth victory in a row in the Super League
St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–2 (25:17, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25, 15:13). Zenit extended its winning streak in the Super League to five matches.
In other matches of the day, Zenit Kazan beat Krasnoyarsk Yenisey at home – 3-1 (25:18, 25:20, 25:27, 25:20), the Dynamo-LO club (Sosnovy Bor) defeated Kemerovo Kuzbass at home – 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:20).
