Challenge Cup: Olympiacos ready for third European volleyball in packed SEF
Olympiacos welcome Maccabi Tel Aviv to their second Challenge Cup final in front of a packed SEF, ready to celebrate their third European men’s volleyball title after a 3-0 win in Israel.
The coronation has come for Olympiakos. The 3-0 in Tel Aviv leaves little room for doubt and the second final against Maccabi for the Men’s Challenge Cup at the SEF in the evening (8 p.m., Cosmote Sport 8HD, live on Sportish) should give the Piraeus their third European trophy in their history.
Alberto Giuliani’s team had confirmed their superiority in the first game in the Shlomo Group Arena in front of 3,500 spectators. In addition, the Piraeus had eliminated the other big favorites for the cup, Panathinaikos, in the semi-finals of the Greek Civil War.
3-0 in the first leg means Olympiacos can win the cup, but also with a 3-2 defeat. If it is not defeated 0-3 or 1-3, the two teams resolve their differences in the “golden” set.
An important role in the positive development of the game will be played by the support that Olympiacos will receive from the stands of Faleri Stadium, which will be converted into a volleyball court for the evening’s needs.
The “red and white” have been training on the SEF pitch since Monday to get used to their new home and are expecting thousands of fans to support them in the evening, which has been sold out for days.
Should the coveted trophy be won, Olympiacos will place it alongside the 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup and the 2005 Top Teams Cup.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

In the Women’s Super League, Minsk in the away match of the 17th round defeated the Zarechye-Odintsovo team with a score of 3-2 (15:25, 22:25, 25:21, 25:15, 15:7).

Volleyball players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” beat “Nova” and won their fifth victory in a row in the Super League
St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–2 (25:17, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25, 15:13). Zenit extended its winning streak in the Super League to five matches.
In other matches of the day, Zenit Kazan beat Krasnoyarsk Yenisey at home – 3-1 (25:18, 25:20, 25:27, 25:20), the Dynamo-LO club (Sosnovy Bor) defeated Kemerovo Kuzbass at home – 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:20).
The leader in the table is Zenit Kazan (16 wins, 45 points), Zenit from St. Petersburg (14 wins, 43 points) is second.
